PAGE I» - PLAINDE ALER - FRIDAY, AUGUST 3,1984 Sports Rick Ball Xm. -V. ik PSA ProfMslmal i r Tuesday men's 12-inch TRACK continued from page 20 Grip, aim, set-up: keys to pre-swing Pre-swing Principles: There are three pre-swing principles that one should check over before taking the club away. They are: grip, aim and set-up. In addressing the ball, my attention is first turned toward the grip- Assuming I am not trying to excessively manipulate the ball in any particular direction, and while standing behind the ball and looking at the target, I will put my normal grip on the club, making sure that it feels comfortable. As I step around to approach the ball, I am making those little corrections I feel are necessary. Next I try to get the face of the club aimed correctly. This I do by simultaneously stepping up to the ball, bending at the waist, and placing the clubhead behind the ball so that it is pointed at the target. From there the feet are positioned, and the hips and shoulders are squared to the target line. Last, I will complete the set-up. I will make sure my posture is good, the ball is at the proper position in my stance, my weight is properly distributed, and then - perhaps most importantly - I will check my muscular tautness. Probably the number one killer in the golf swing is tension. Knowing this, my final pre-swing thought is: You know you are prepared to hit the ball, relax, keep your head steady, and make good contact with the ball. A fundamentally sound routine in addressing the ball is not the guarantee we all look for to assure us of consistently straight and true shots, but it certainly is an important part of the overall program. Next week: The Superintendent's Viewpoint. BLUE CAMEL 9 OLD BRIDGE-BUSS FORD 8 It took the Blue Camel only two innings to come up with enough runs to defeat Buss Ford-Old Bridge, 9-8. RBI singles by Paul Kflday and Jim Comer, with help from Tom Blake's sacrifice fly and Rick Penoyer's RBI double moved the Blue Camel ahead. BIMBO'S 19 UNCLE BUNKY'S 5 Bimbo's began the night with an RBI single from Joe Carlisle and a two-run blast from John Griffitji to take a 2-1 lead. McHenry Country Club ladies Niftiest shot of the day was Letty Busscher's f°rty yard, nine-iron approach on the 16th hole which gave her a com bination birdie chip-in to lift her morale for the balance of the round. Nice going, Letty. • From the sublime to the ridiculous was the unbelievable frustration suffered by Gen Hoelscher on number nine as her drive caught a tree, bounced three times on the sidewalk and then sailed across the fairway into the pond on the opposite side. Such shennanigans were all part of the day as the ladies of McHenry County Club entered the first of their four-week Club and Class Championship Tournament. Leading the pack with low gross over the field (85 gross) was our current champion, Carol Cooney v followed b5* Virginia Turner with 92, net 74; Kathy Lundquist 94-70; Gloria Otth 96-68 and Lynn Schmidt 95- 75, all in Class A.
