Six suburban mass transit carriers (Joliet, Waukegan, Oak Lawn, West Towns, Harvey and Naperville) recorded increases of more than 20 percent over the previous •May. "We are just elated with the continued growth in ridership," said Glencoe Mayor Florence Boone, who heads the RTA's Suburban Bus Division. "It is the board's desire to do everything possible to continue this forward momentum of drawing riders back to the system." The new figures indicate the RTA bus system has surpassed number of riders it carried in April 1961 just prior to the RTA financial crunch, when services were drastically reduced. Hie increase in ridership was attributed to service im provements, strengthening of the economy and a decline in unemployment, the RTA said.
