Ms. Donarski was appointed to the interim CUB Board earlier this year bj Governor James Thomp son "Consumers need to joii forces to fight rising gas electric, and phone bills," sai< Donarski. "That's why thej should become active member: of CUB and take the time t< attend the Crystal Lake towr hall meeting. CUB needs grassroots support and input.' Trustees met for about an hour behind closed doors before they opened the meeting back up to approve Bartlett's $3,000 increase. The additional money will increase Bartlett's salary to $53,000 for the upcoming year. Bartlett started his term as MCC president July 1,1980, with a starting salary of $38,000. The overall increase from 1980 to the recent increase amounU to $14,500. Tl The last salary increase ap proved by MCC trustees was in October 1983. At that time, trustees voted Bartlett a $3,000, or a 6.4 percent, annual salary increase to $50,000. Bartlett was granted that increase because he was the lowest-paid college president in Illinois, according to Barbara Kropp, former board chairman. "I believe I'm now about the third or fourth lowest-paid college president in the state," Bartlett said. Although the college is facing rough financial times, BarUett said the increases that he, classified staff, and ad ministration received were needed. According* to BarUett, at the last board meeting the classified staff and administrative staff were also given a 6 percent annual pay increase. BarUett said his salary increase was kept in line with other staff members' increases. "The increases were figured in the budget. Things were running tighter, but, in order to run a quality institution, you can't go without pay fiicreases," Bartlett said. "Wheri compared to the statewide averages with other community colleges, we are below average. "You can't keep good people unless you give them a reasonable increase. It's a must," he added. BarUett said MCC faculty members are paid ap proximately $1,000 to $1,500. below the statewide average. The administration is .paid from $2,000 to $3,000 below the statewide average. Bartlett added he is paid well below the average. "I think the board acted responsibly. You just have to find a way to make the in- STATE FAIR Among some of the events in which youngsters will be able to compete at the State Fair this year are the Pigtail and Ponytail Contest, Bubble Yum Bubble Gum Contest, Poster Coloring and Design-a-Poster Contest, Breakdancing, Baton Twirling, Baby Picture contest and the Diaper Derby. The board also approved a resolution to transfer $1.75 million in the working cash fund to the education fund. The money was transferred to the education fund to meet necessary disbursements for educational purposes. According to the board report, there presently is insufficient money in the education fund to meet ordinary expenses of the district. * * * * * * * * * * * * * EVERY ADULT SHOULD HAVE A HEARING TEST, EVERY YEAR, You can't h«t th« most out of llfo if you do not hoar well.
