Murphy, of Cary, is now treasurer of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA). He was elected to a one-year term, effective July 1, by the full Board of Representatives of the ICCTA at its recent annual meeting. Hie ICCTA serves as a vehicle directly linking community college trustees throughout the state. It is composed of nine geographical regions, with MCC a member of the North Suburban Region. effectively run a college. As treasurer, Murphy will maintain the association's books,\work with the finance committee on preparation of the association's budget and attend to other fiscal, matters. Murphy is starting his fourth year as a member of ICCTA's Executive Committee and recently completed three years as chairman of the North Suburban Region. He has served as a resource person for seminars conducted for trustees by the ICCTA. He has chaired the Nominating Committee, spent a year each as liaison with the Capital Developmlnt Board and the Illinois Board of Higher Education and was recently a member of ICCTA's Finance Committee. ; An aide in the ICCTA executive director's office says the ICCTA is becoming a bigger voice for the state's community colleges and the primary reason for that is community college trustees and presidents taking a more active part than they used to in legislative advocacy. Murphy adds, "Through concerted effort, the ICCTA has become more responsive to the community college system in developing legislation with the state legislature for the benefit of the system. The ICCTA works cloeely with the Illinois Board of Education and the Illinois Community College Board in development of programs and to help fulfill the needs of the community college group." Murphy is senior vice president at Channer Financial Services in Itasca and has been a member of the MCC Board of Trustees since April of 1976. He served as vice chairman in 1980 and was elected to his present position as chairman of the MCC Board of Trustees in November of 1963. He will be up for re­ election to the MCC Board in November of 1985. McHenry artists are chosen for Gold Coast Art Fair The artwork of two McHenry residents will be included in the 27th annual Gold Coast Art Fair, to be held August 10,11 and 12 in Chicago. John Burr of 1407 W. Channel Beach Ave., McHenry, and Gloria Yeater, 2619 Lauderdale Cr., McHenry, will be featured along with over 600 other artists, who will be traveling from 27 states, Canada and Poland. Admission will be free to the show, which will run from noon to 10 p.m. on all streets between Chicago Avenue and Cedar Street on Chicago's near north side. Judging by the number of artists taking part, the amount of space devoted to art, the number of works on display and total attendance, the Gold Coast fair is billed as the largest in the world. The purpose of the group is the dissemination and interchange of information regarding and affecting public community colleges in the state of Illinois and the promotion of action for the common good of member institutions. The main function of the ICCTA is to act as a strong lobbying group on behalf of legislation affecting the com­ munity college system at the state and federal level.
