The museum contains aircraft from the very early Wright Brothers years right up to tpday's modern day jets and rockets, affording the members an inside look in many of the aircraft including a Marine helicopter (Jolly Green Giant), one that participated in the Grenada operation, holes and all. The tour included visits to the flight lines, control tower and weather stations with in struction in the various stages, briefings and activities essential for the success of the operations of the base. The base also sports one of the world's largest fire engines, a must for emergencies considering the size of the base and traffic encountered daily. The success of the trip was attributed to the Base Motor Pool and Flight Operations personnel at Wright Patterson AFB, the United States Navy, and the Illinois Wing of CAP. The local squadron is looking for senior and cadet members ages 13 years and older, male and female, interested in flying, community services, and the nation's aerospace challenge of the future. For more in formation contact Commander Szarfinski evenings at (815) 455*- 4010 or attend a meeting Thursdays, 7:15 p.m.#at Gait Airport. ** The internationally known country music group, "The Whites", will be presented in concert on Friday and Saturday evenings, Sept. 14 and 15, at the Woodstock Opera House. One of America's premier country music family acts, the core of the /group consists of Buck White and daughters Cheryl and Sharon. With Buck White on piano and mandolin, Sharon on acoustic guitar, and Cheryl on bass, they are helped by younger sister Rosie on percussion and harmony vocals, Jerry Douglas, on dobro, and Neil Worf, formerly of the Burrito Brothers Band on drums. The group's vocal harmonies and acoustic instrumentation, together with their blend of traditional music forms, en compassing western swing, bluegrass, blues, honky-tonk and country, have enabled them to establish popularity on the contemporary music scene. To date The Whites have performed in over 15 countries, in addition to playing at many of the major fairs and festivals in most geographic regions of the United States. The act has ap peared on stage with such country music stars as Ronnie Milsap, Ricky Skaggs, Grandpa Jones, and Emmylou Harris. It all started in Wichita Falls, Texas, with the young Buck White listening to the sounds of country music and western swing on the radio. His dream was to become a country music entertainer. Gaining mastery of the piano at an early age, White played for dances during his high school years. After graduation he expanded his performance boundaries to include club dates and ap pearances on local radio. Or dering a mandolin by mail from a music store catalogue, White was soon on his way to a proficiency on the instrument that would some day be his hallmark in the music industry. In the early 1960s White for med a two-family band called The Down Home Folks, featuring his wife Pat and another family. The group played at small gatherings mostly as a hobby, until 1966, when daughters Sharon and Cheryl joined the act, replacing the other family on vocals, guitar, and bass. Finding that they could appeal to larger audiences, the White family moved to Nashville, Tenn. in 1971, and continued to tour the bluegrass festival circuit, while also making ap pearances in the larger metropolitan areas. In 1979 The Whites made their debut at the famous "Grand Ole Opry". The group has earned nominations for some of the country's most coveted awards, including the Grammy Awards.
