The dollhouse was presented to 4-H by the Busy Three 4-H Club of McHenry, led by Ferol and Hank Tomlinson. Inspecting the house is President Phillip Wolf of the Busy Three and Alberta England of the $4 Million for 4-H Campaign. Dollhouse crafted by McHenry resident will be given away in 4-H fundraiser Sunday, Sept. 23, is the date selected by the McHenry County 4-H Building on Excellence campaign committee to give away a hand-crafted two-story Victorian doll house. The winner will be announced at the end of a county-wide two-day "4- H in the Mall" observance at Crystal Point Mall. Made by a retired McHenry man, the house features a columned qorch which wrai>s around three sides of the front of the house. The inside features include an entry foyer, kitchen, formal dining room and living room and a banistered staircase leading upstairs to four bedrooms and a bath. Two bedrooms look out through bay windows and all other windows are shuttered. The interior partitions are removable for purposes of decorating. The doll house is being shown at many local city fesitvals in McHenry County throughout the summer. Hie 4-H Building on Ex­ cellence campaign is a three- year effort by the Illinois State 4- H Foundation to generate a $4 million endowment fund to keep up with the rising costs of developing 4-H programs in Illinois. Returns from in­ vestment of the fund will be used in the seven 4-H program areas of family involvement, 4-H educational programs and electronic technology, curriculum development, professional publicity and 4-H promotion, volunteer training, research and evaluation, and 4- H expansion. In the area of curriculum, at least nine areas are targeted for revision or new development. This includes the writing of project books, leaders guides and other leader literature in­ cluding one computer software program in each of 12 project areas and distribution of the software programs, one per county throughout Illinois. Funding for 4-H activities comes through the cooperation of federal, state,, and local governments, the corporate sector, and private donations. The funds, helping youth from ages eight to 18, are ad­ ministered through the land grant universities of the various states. In Illinois, 4-H programs are administered by the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service A teachers workshop focusing on the Intensive Phonics method of reading will be presented in the offices of Communicative Disorders Service. The workshop will be five hours in length, and can be attended either Friday, August 17 or Saturday, August 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Teachers and parents are urged to attend the workshop to help bring a new and successful tool to their students this fall. Huelene Chadwick, a multiply- certified special education teacher, will be the trainer in the workshops. The method, which requires no dittos or workbooks, simultaneously helps students of any age improve their reading, listening, spelling, and hand­ writing skills. The Northland Area Art League and the Barrington Area Art Council will co-sponsor several art workshops at the McHenry County Farm Bureau, 11909 McConnell Rd., Wood­ stock. Oil painting, taught by Angie Caner, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturdays, Sept. 8, 15 and 22. Watercolor painting will be taught by Rodger Bechthold from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays, Sept. 8, 15 and 22. Drawing and composition will be taught by Lyn Carlson, from 7 to 10 p.m., Thursdays, Sept. 6,13 and 20. Art photography will be taught by Lou Taylor from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturdays, August 25, Sept. 1 and Sept 8. The class will include two field trips. All instructors are well-known artists. The workshops are non­ profit endeavors with partial aid from the Northland Area Art FEASIBILITY An interagency working group has been appointed by the Governor to assess the feasibility of locating a corrections facility such as a diagnostic and reception center in the Manteno area. "Although we have helped relieve over­ crowding in the state's prisons with the current construction of new beds at Lincoln, Jacksonville, Danville and Vienna, the prison population will undoubtedly continue to grow. The feasibility study at Manteno is part of our ongoing efforts to project and meet future correctional needs," said Thompson. League and the Barrington Area Art Council. Calhoun St., Woodstock, or by calling (815) 338-1153. - Crime of the Week This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information on the person or persons responsible for an early morning burglary to Video Alley, a business located at 926 N. Front St. in McHenry. Sometime between midnight and 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, burglars entered Video Alley through the rear of the building. They then drove a truck inside to assist them in the theft. 459-4800 Numerous items were removed from the building, in­ cluding several video cassette recorders, 50 to 75 cassette movies, computer equipment, three cases of blank video tapes, and numerous video game cartridges. Police investigators believe that more than one person is involved in the burglary. Total loss approaches $9,000. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards of up to $1,000 for in­ formation leading to the arrest« and filing of criminal charges against offenders. If you have any information on this burglary to Video Alley, McHenry, that occurred on May 26, or in­ formation on any other crimes, call Crime Stoppers at (815) 459- 4800. All callers remain anonymous-one never needs to give a name. Crime Stoppers, which is sponsored by the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, assigns secret numbers to anonymous callers who provide in­ formation. Callers are in­ structed to call back at regular intervals to find out if any suspects have been arrested as a result of confidential in-' formation given. If there are arrests, the Crime Stoppers board of directors then meets to determine an ap­ propriate reward. A secret meeting is arranged to make the cash reward payments.
