Eileen, St. Louis Dear Eileen: Since your furniture is a collection of odds and ends, you can pull it together best with fresh paint and colorful slipcovers. First, go to your public library and check out a book on how to make slipcovers. There are several easy styles that require very little sewing. Select fabric that is durable, washable and not too heavy. For example: A navy and white country print in a cotton/po­ ly blend would be clean and crisp looking. Next, paint all wood furniture white. Accent this look with some white straw baskets filled with dried flowers. Frame two or three art posters and hang them on your walls. Add a few brightly col­ ored toss pillows, and voila! you've turned your second hand furniture into a really first-class act. Defr Molly Milligan: I am a widow op a limited budget. I have a very old but very comfortable chaise lounge in my bedroom, and this is where I enjoy my morning coffee and newspaper. Couples planning to marry in the near future could save money by obtaining their marriage license before Aug. 27 when the fee will be hiked. Governor James Thompson has signed an new bill which increases the marriage license fee by $15, from $25 to $40. McHenry County Clerk Rosemary Azzaro, who issues marriage licenses in the county, said the licenses are effective for 60 days from the date of issuance, so couples planning a wedding before the end of Oc­ tober and wanting to save paying the increase can obtain a license at the lower fee prior to Aug. 27. clerk's to collect the $40 fee, of which $25 is returned to the state to fund the battered spouse program. Classes will be held at 7 p.m. on Wed­ nesday evenings, starting on Sept. 26 and wiU be held in the first floor conference room at Memorial Hospital. The program will be free.
