Historic quilt and lace work r to be displayed at museum PAGE 5 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, AUGUST 17.1984 McHenry police report traffic accidents Sunday, August 19, from 1:30 - to 4:90 p.m., the McHenry County Historical Museum in Union will place on special exhibit many quilts, lace work, samplers, crocheting, em­ broidery and other handiwork from its vast collection. Besides the items themselves, "early sewing, lace, quilt and crochet patterns that were used " in the creation of such things will also be shown. Among items to be exhibited will be Battenberg lace which '^developed in the 16th Century ' and reached its greatest popularity during the 19th ; Century, bobbin lace, fine ' ladies' lace collars, table linens, locally-made samplers and a wide variety of quilts and woven coverlets. One of the more significant bed coverings to be highlighted is a Federalist Period candlewicking bed cover brought to this county in the 1830's by the Walkup Family of the Ridgefield area. Many of the items to be shown that day have interesting local histories accompanying them. Quilt fanciers will enjoy seeing patterns like log cabin, ocean waves, pineapple, lone star, tulip, Roman stripe, chimney sweep and double wedding ring. Several from the collection date to the early 1840's. Residents of Greenwood Township will be admitted free to the museum that Sunday. A Spring Grove man was cited by McHenry Police for not having the appropriate lights on following a traffic accident at 1:30 a.m. Aug. 12. Edward J. Bleeker, 321 Croyden, Spring Grove, said he was driving north on Riverside Drive when his car stalled. He turned off the headlights to conserve power for restarting the vehicle, when his car was hit by another auto. The driver of the other car, Linda M. Pulk, 1418 Lakeview, McHenry, said she could not avoid hitting the car stopped in the roadway; No injuries were reported. Thomas W. Smith, 1614 N. Gina V. Rittorno, 815 Broadway, McHenry, 'said *she was in the intersection when the Mullens vehicle also entered the intersection and struck her car. The Rittorno vehicle then struck an auto driven by Mary Ellen Ester, 4614 N. Fox Lane, McHenry. DUI arrest made I A McHenry resident, Sophia E. Malina, 3901 John St., McHenry, was arrested for driving under the influence. Police said the Malina vehicle was seen traveling in an erratic manner near the intersection of Front and Elm Streets and was stopped.
