Nargelenas announced that Illinois will join with surroun­ ding states this Labor Day weekend in implementing Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort.) Operation C.A.R.E. is a multi- state program of interstate highway patrol and en­ forcement, while the secondary objective of reducing the severity of those accidents which do occur. For the Labor Day weekend, enforcement efforts wjll be concentrated on the following: -Identify and remove from the highways, drinking and intoxicated drivers. -Promote the use of seat belts or child restraints and other life preserving equipment that reduce injuries and fatalities occurring in motor vehicle accidents. -Enforcement of the national maximum speed limit of 55 miles per hour for all vehicles. 4 -Establish high visibility patrol activities as a deterrent factor on designated C.A.R.E. highways during the selected holiday periods. -Equipment and moving violations perpetrated by second division vehicles and other large commercial vehicles. Operation C.A.R.E. will in­ volve saturation patrol during the maximum traffic times of the Labor Day holiday weekend on all interstate routes in Illinois and will begin on Friday, Aug. 31, at 4 p.m. and end at midnight Monday, Sept. 3. The in- terstates, Illinois and U.S. high­ ways involved in District Two are: 1-55; U.S. 41; U.S. 12; and n. 47. Captain James R. Coffman, commander of District 2 in Elgin, reminds the public that, "This is the last holiday of summer, and as usual, summer is almost over, so let's not try to put the whole summer season in a two or three day period. If you, are going any place -give yourself enough time, make sure your vehicle is in good running condition, and that you, the driver, are in good condition to operate that vehicle."
