We've had good athletes, but too few of them," Oberembt said. 1 "This year I think we are closer to third or fourth with our roster size. The strength our athletes have been working to develop will not only make us stronger against our com petitors, but it should also help to reduce the number of injuries we'll have throughout the season," he said. A key factor for the Skyhawks, however, will be the replacement of the offensive players who graduated. "It will be a matter of how quick the young players can learn the offensive skills," the third-year coach said. "Normally we would not have had to start at the base level we started at this year, because of all the new players. But, we aren't starting from scratch either," he said. THESE KIDS HAVE HAD good coaching at the freshman and sophomore levels. It's just that they haven't played together before and that may cause some trouble at first." The new Skyhawk squad will need to depend on leadership from the returning players, as the team opens its season with a trial by fire. t "We open against Richmond (Sept. 8), and they're always state playoff material. Last year our win over them was by a narrow margin," Oberembt said. The Skyhawks will begin their conference season, facing the two co-favorites of the NWSC. The first game will be Lake Zurich, on the road, Sept. 22. "They will be a good test for us," Oberembt predicted. O 0 ecl In the Skyhawks fourth contest of the season, they will travel to Woodstock to face the defending state Class 2A champions, the Marian Central Hurricanes. "We've played against the teams in this conference and done well,'& Oberembt said. "This team again has the talent, and if we can put all the pieces together, we can continue to do just as well V or better.' X GOOD LUCK ATHLETES!
