The series, produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg, centered on two young plain clothes detectives. Dave Starsky (Paul Michael Claser) was a streetwise brawler, while his partner. Ken Hutchinson (David Soul) was more educated and soft- spoken. Together, the partners engaged in a kind of casual banter peppered with wisecracks as they careened around town in Starsky's cherry-red car in pursuit of baddies. The show was among the more violent in an already-violent genre. Each week, Starsky and Hutch battled the lowest forms of life in the criminal underworld, such as pimps, dope pushers and the occasional psychotic Vietnam vet. They sometimes bent the law to get their man, but their actions were supported by their boss, Captain Dobey (Bemie Hamilton). The show was an immediate hit and was a key ele ment in the Fred Silverman strategy that pushed ABC to the top of the ratings heap. •, Question: What kind of car did Starsky drivel ouuoi psoj Ml V :samsuy H ' © 1M4 Cempuieg - TIGHTROPE, (R-Warner Bros.)
