The exhibit was highlighted by a special appearance by "McGruff" the dog, the national crime prevention symbol, who was on hand to emphasize "taking a bite out of crime." City officials and staffers from seven city departments were on hand to talk with visitors to ex plain where the city has been and where it's going. "True to its past... confident of its future " was the overall theme of city displays. Besides the police, the departments of recrea tion, public works, finance and water, and the Woodstock Public Library and the opera house were represented. Visitors not only had the oppor tunity to ask questions and obtain information in a variety of forms, from brochures to photographs, but they also were able to partake of several activities, from the library quiz to a videotape of the Hubbard Street Dancers. In addition to bookmarks, brochures and a kiosk of photographs depicting library ac tivities and services the library has to offer, there was a slide continued to page 20 continued from page 4 while exchanging information and connoisseurs nibbled on "A Taste of Woodstock." The fair boasted fun for the whole family and there was something for everyone. The 95 booths in Buildings C, D, and E, which were sold out well in ad vance of the fair, featured not on ly displays by local businesses and organizations but also ex hibits by governmental units, from the City of Woodstock to the McHenry County Sheriff's Department to School District 200. Woodstock police gave away some 4,000 pieces of material on crime prevention. There were also 500 children up to age 16 whose parents brought them to a separate booth for. the special police fingerprinting program. v Information was available on programs of the police Crime Prevention Unit, including assisting businessmen and the public with education about crime prevention techniques, seminars on security surveys for business and residential property, and pro grams on personalWotection like "Operation Identification" for m a r k i n g p r o p e r t y a n d "Neighborhood Watch" to help Alan Hafferkamp Jim Wormlay Virgil Smith, mgr.
