To be fic, the city belongs to the chamber's Professional ' Service ivision. That aspect of the city -- ser vice to its citizens -- will be the focus of local government's par ticipation in the Business Showcase '84, Assistant to the City Manager Dave Danielson said. "We want to feature the pro grams the city offers to people that residents may not be aware of," he said. The city's participation in the trade fair is two-fold, Danielson said. Having booths helps explain city services and also shows the city is interested in promoting Woodstock businesses, he said. "In order for the city to survive, we need a strong business base," he said. "It's appropriate we're at the trade fair." This year the city is renting 25 percent more space than it did last year, but it will be featuring fewer city programs, Danielson said. At the 1983 trade fair, the city tried to promote too many things about itself, he said. This year there will be fewer features "but we'll do a lot better job on the ones we do," Danielson said. One of the city's most visible and important services, the police department, will be represented at the fair with a wide variety of displays on home safety and crime prevention. The auxiliary police will also be donating their time to run the child fingerprin ting program in Building E. Parents retain the only set of prints. An officer will also be at the police department's booth throughout the fair, giving citizens a chance to ask officers about their role and talk on an in formal basis. Alex Roberts, head of the city's Recreation Division, said his department is planning to display a large board showing all the rec division activities open to citizens. The rec division will also be giv ing away a playground programs T-shirt every hour on the hour and Roberts said several lucky citizens will also win coupons allowing them to take part in the rec division program of their choice for free. Roberts said the fair offers his department a chance to show peo ple that the city Recreation Divi sion is out in the community tak ing an active, visible role. Since the rec division needs volunteers to implement its many programs, the fair is also a good chance to get people interested in helping out, he said. For the people who don't know the Woodstock Public Library does much more than cljeck out books, a wealth of information is planned at the trade fair, head librarian Margaret Field said. She said the library is planning a "visual display of what the average Woodstock family gets continued to page 17 Authorized Factory Dealer For "GENIE" by Alliance CVC Services ^«-S£L4»E® * SERV'CE • INSTALLATION GARAGE DOORS • GARAGE DOOR OPENERS SERVICE ALL TYPES 338-5985 1022 CLAY ST.
