Calhoun,Woodstock, 338*1936 M P T V P h > Smith to succeed Huber as manager of chamber By Angela Burden Sentinel staff writer Much of the credit for Woodstock's Business Showcase could be given to Ron Huber, soon to retire as executive manager of Woodstock Chamber of Com merce & Industry . Organizing an annual trade fair for Woodstock was one of Huber's goals when he undertook a two- year, part-time position as manager for the chamber in September 1982. Other goals for Huber included an increase in membership, which has jumped by 50 percent during his tenure, the relocation of the chamber office to a more visible location -- it is now across from city hall -- and continuity in Christmas lighting and decora tions to attract people to Woodstock. Huber has accomplished these goals and more. "The whole pur pose of taking the position was to accomplish these goals. The main concern is to promote Woodstock as a nice place to shop in, to live in and to work in/' Huber said. He explained that the executive manager position requires more time than he dan devote to it. Huber has a technical consulting business. Huber says he will con tinue to volunteer time to civic projects in the community. An electrical engineer, Huber is former vice president of research for Joslyn Manufacturing, where he was employed for 33 years. Following graduation from Nor thwestern University, Huber worked at the Naval Research Lab during World War II. He then went to the Lightning Research Institute before joining Joslyn. He and his wife, Carolyn, mov ed to Woodstock in 1970 when the Joslyn lab relocated here. They reside in a rural Woodstock home from which Huber will operate his consulting firm. Gerald M. Smith Jr. has been named to succeed Huber, effec tive Oct. 1. Smith, 33, said he will give up his position with his family's real estate firm, Gerald M. Smith and Associates, to devote full time to the executive manager's post. continued to page 19 IFGoodrich ilFGoodrich XLMH/T STEEL BELTED RAMALS NOW ONLY $AQ20 155-80R13 The beet steel belted redlel passenger tire ever built by B.F.
