IS, 1934) Bob • Peterson, the golden- voiced singer of McHenry, is again a winner, coming in for second place honors at the Opportunity Night finals at the Miller Theater, Woodstock, Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Rauen have moved from the Mrs. Agnes Wentworth house to the home of Mrs. Hickey, Green Street. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Unti have moved to the R.V. Powers house on Court street. Mr. and Mrs. Adams have moved from the R.V. Powers house to the Rose Huemann cottage, next door, which Mr. and Mrs. Fred Justen recently vacated to return to their hotel. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 14, 1944) Messages from Men in Service came from Pvt. George Freund in New Orleans, La. and Joe Mc Andrews, Philadelphia, Pa. , .Jean Helen Sclimitt, Mc- Cullom Lake, has been sworn into the WAVES and will shortly go into training. Jean is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Schmitt. She was graduated from McHenry High School and worked for Tonyan Construction , Company as stenographer-bookkeeper before enlisting. Corp. William Bockman, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bock­ man, who resides on the John Petrie Farm south of McHenry, is a technician with the medical corps. He entered service on March 2, 1942 and took his training at Letterman General hospital in San Francisco, Calif. TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 10, 1959) With Illinois highway fatalities held below the toll set last year, McHenry and the entire county area had an even better record. There were no fatalities in the county and, in the local community, no ac­ cidents were reported by state or city police or by the sheriff's office. A record high was hit in July, 1969, when 143 patients were admitted to McHenry hospital, according to a report released by the institution. Mrs. Irma Rockstead of Wonder Lake, a pleasant and efficient lady with many years of hospital nursing to her credit, will be the new nurse serving the McHenry schools, working along with Mrs. Pauline Pries, who has been with the system for two years. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 13, 1974) 4 At a meeting of the McHenry County board, approval was given to the improvement and upgrading of Johnsburg road, from Rt. 31 to the Fox River bridge, through Johnsburg. The present estimated project cost is between $400,000 and $500,000. The state will widen and resurface the road to a width of 24 feet and will install storm sewers to abate the flooding in. Johnsburg. The Consolidated* Grade School District 15 school board approved a $3,990,597 budget for the 1974-75 school year. Virgle L. Chappell of the First Baptist Church of McHenry has announced his resignation after 13 years. Pastor Chappell started the First Baptist Church in an old store front building on Main street in June, 1961. In 1963 the congregation moved into a new building at 509 N. Front street. A recently announced first place winner in the 7 to 12 age group of the Holy Year poster contest sponsored by the National Catholic Society of Foresters was Kristine Matt, 1Q, of St. Agatha Court, No. 777, Johnsburg. Kristine is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Matt. The theme of her poster was: "He Died For Us - We Live For Him." PAGE 7 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14,1IM Expanded events featured for Bluegrass Jamboree Crystal Lake's Fourth Annual Bluegrass Jamboree will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16 at Main Beach Park. According to Chris Strong, whose band co-sponsors the event with the Crystal Lake Park District, the success of the past three Jamborees has caused some changes. "We can have more bands in two days, and the beach will allow cam­ ping. The Jamboree just keeps getting bigger and better," said Strong. As in the past, the Jamboree will be hosted by the Strong Family String Band of Crystal Lake, a band which is active throughout the Midwest, and which has appeared recently on national radio and television programs. Also appearing at the Jam­ boree will be Buck's Stove and Range Company, lately featured on WGN radio, The Special Consensus Bluegrass Band, The Bluegrass Gospelairs, The Lorentz Family, and Crystal Lake's own Back Porch Jam­ boree. ___ . The music will begin at noon on Saturday, Sept. 15 with an open stage. Acoustic musicians are welcome to perform, whether band or single. A similar open stage will occur Sunday at noon. Regular shows will be from 2 until 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. until noon and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. The morning show will be all bluegrass gospel music. Tickets are $3 per show ($2 for the gospel show), or $5 for either day. A weekend pass is $8.
