Crop in surance covers avoidable loss of inudwtlun resulting from ad verse weather conditions, disease, insects, or fire. "llfchy termers are not aware of ttfe newest changes in the Federal Crop Insurance progtam," says Willard F. Davey, district director for the Federid Crop Insurance Cor poration (PCIC). The Federal Cro(y Insurance ^ an agency of the -r'U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). "Today's crop insurance can be tailor-made to meet protection needs against ad verse growing conditions for a vafSs^jivMndfcridual farmers." "By -choosing crop insurance protection, farmers may close the g*> between planting and harvest by minimizing problems which prevent completion of a successful growing season," saVs Davey. ^ As many area farmers remember, the widespread crop disasters of 1983 drive home the need for greater risk protection. Now marketed through pnvate insurance agents and companies, the crop insurance program has been renovated to be more responsive to the needs of today's farmers, Insurance needs can be tailored to meet a specific financial obligation, the producer to repay or cover out-of-pocket expenses," says Davey. For more information about the program, producers should contact an authorized crop in surance agent. To select, an agent, producers should check the list of agents available at their county ASCS office. Ap plications must be no later than Sept. 30.
