A total of $328,694.11 was paid under protest in 1958 taxes, it has been disclosed by County Treasurer Harry Herendeen. This is believed to be the largest amount ever to be protested in a year by individual taxpayers. Algonquin township led in the number of protests with 1,118. McHenry township followed with 579. . The purchase followed years of negotiations with the city of McHenry, almost reaching an agreement with the City Council when it was blocked by a request for a referendum. Mrs. Mildred Krauz, af­ fectionately known as 'Mim\ has been named outstanding educator in /Who's Who in 1974'. Mrs. Krauz was npminated for the honor by her principal, Fred C. Kusch, Jr., of McHenry Junior high school. Mrs. Krauz has been teaching in McHenry since 1963 and is presently a seventh grade Language Arts teacher. The McHenry County Defenders will consider and explore means to transform disposal of wastes as sewage sludge, septic pumpage, and feedlot manure into two valuable resources, methane gas and fertilizer, in a program set for Oct. 10. City of McHenry Police Chief Kenneth Espey is the new president of the McHenry County Chiefs of Police association. Keith Durkin is back at his desk at West campus after spending three months as an American Abroad, living on the island of Malaysia. Keith is the 17-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Durkin of 5200 Maple Hill Drive. Citizens continue opposition to sludge injection request The Concerned Citizens Group of Johnsburg, Richmond, Spring Grove and Twin Lakes has unanimously' endorsed a resolution passed recently by both the McHenry County Board and the McHenry County Health Board which opposes any in­ crease or expansion of a sludge disposal operation at Hill view Farm in Richmond. The resolutions* recommend that the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency reject a new permit requested by Arnold May, owner of the business, until the sludge operation begins to meet current requirements. May had requested another permit last spring, which would have allowed sludge disposal in additional areas.
