MARIAN FIGHTS OFF continued from page 20 and two more running plays got the ball to the 10 where Fortin bulled up the middle for the remaining yardage and the score. Will tacked on the 26th point. At this point, Penza felt his team could have put the final nail in the Skyhawks' coffin, but the hosts would have none of that. After an exchange of possessions, Mark Dumelle intercepted a pass at the Johnsburg six and returned it to the Marian 49. A Marian per sonal foul was added to the play taking the ball to the 34. After a penalty backed the Skyhawks up, DuRei found Pete Switzer, who had beaten the Marian secondary, for a 40-yard touchdown pass with 7:25 remaining^ Majercik's boot made the score 26-14, but Marian still seemed to have things well io hand. That was until Tom Maiorca recovered the ensuing on-side kick at the Johnsburg 49. DuRei connected with Dumelle for 15 yards on a fourth-and-six play, and then lofted a 30-yard strike to John Gallagher to take the ball to the 23. DuRei then brought the Johnsburg rooting gallery to life with a 23-yard scoring toss to Dumelle at the 5:12 mark. Majercik's PAT. brought Johnsburg to within 26- 21. THE SKYHAWKS were caUed for sucessive off-sides penalties after trying on-side kicks. When Majercik finally got the squib kick away, Hartlieb fell on the ball at the Hawks' 47. The unbeaten Hurricanes then manufactured a nine-play scoring drive to ice the verdict. Powers capped the march with a three-yard run around left end. Will's point after failed, but the game was finally decided. "I felt we hit with them and at times out-hit them," a proud Oberembt said. "Face it, they have good players. We can't take that away from them. But our defensive coaches, Mike Roberts and Jim Briscoe, did an outstanding job getting our kids ready. "Marian Central knew it was in a game today." DuRei finished the day ll-of-28 for 176 yards and three touch downs. Powers, who was forced out of the pocket several times during the day, hit on 5-of-lO for 52 yards. On the time when he had to run, he gave the Hurricnaes a big lift gaining 71 yards on 11 carries. Fortin led the rushing attack with 15 carries for 127 yards, while Hartlieb toted the ball 11 times for 43 yards.
