Men's Day speaker to talk on sexuality SECTION 2 - PAGE 7 - PLAINDEALER HERALD, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER J, 1M4 Touching is a vital need in every human's life, according to Greg Risberg, clinical social worker and educator at Nor thwestern University medical school. Risberg will be the featured speaker Saturday, Nov. 3 at the second animal Men's Day at.McHenry County College. Risberg is convinced that, at the minimum, humans need four hugs a day, eight for a good day and 12 for a really great day. He says that Italians who are good friends touch approximately 120 times an hour during conversation. The English touch only three times an hour. Chicago's rate is reported to be a lowly 2.8 times per hour. Th<fe reason, according to Risberg, is simple but sad. He sayst "Our society has done a great job of sexualizing the art of touching. If you touch someone of the opposite sex, you are accused of 'coming on'. If you touch someone of the same sex, you are accused of being gay." During his talk at MCC, Risberg plans to discuss the sex role messages men receive and from the vantage point of his specialized training in com- m u n i c a t i o n s , s t r e s s management, sexuality and. assertiveness, he will talk about ways men can improve their lives and the quality of their relationships. . Men's Day is sponsored fay the MCC Re-Entry Program. Those involved in planning the day have taken steps to see that opportunities are provided for men to get together for the purpose of listening to and sharing ideas and feelings. There will be time to examine, discuss and evaluate the stresses placed upon men in culture. . The day willbegin with coffee starting at 8:30 a.m., following by a keynote address by Greg Risberg. Also included in the $12 registration fee will be the participant's choice of morning and afternoon seminar topics and lunch. Register in person at the college Monday through Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.; or on Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Another alternative for registering is to call or write the Re-Entry Program and request a coupon to use to register by mail.Hie telephone number is 465-3700, ext. 334.
