GREEN ST.-McMENRY 385-7531 Wise trash disposal helps get best use of resources PAGE 3 - PLAINDEALER HERALD, WEDNESDAY/OCTOBER 3,1964 DISTRICT 156 from Recycling shovta signs of becoming a major method of trash disposal. Only recently, the city of Seattle, Washington, has begun collecting garbage in a new way. Residents are asked to separate their trash so that as much as possible can be easily recycled. Canada is making plans to pick up only garbage which is separated before placing it on the curb. Such source separation will greatly increase our con servation of natural resources and energy, since a much larger percentage of the total trash will be recycled efficiently. Com posting of kitchen garbage into a soil conditioner is also proposed - a boon to those concerned with soil erosion. The McHenry County Defenders' next recycling drive will be held Saturday Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of McHenry Com munity High School West Campus, 4724 W. Crystal Lake Rd. To help the organizations working on the drives, bring any of the following items: newspaper with no magazines or junk mail included, glass con tainers with all plastic and metal removed, "tin" cans rinsed and flattened, used motor oil, aluminum scrap of all kinds, cardboard and brown paper bags. There will be a buy-back program for 100 percent aluminum cans. Due to con stantly changing wholesale rates for aluminum the price will not be set at this time but will reflect the latest changes. To get the most return for your aluminum cans, flatten them for an extra 2 cents per pound. Also, there is a bonus for lots of more than 100 pounds - an extra cent per pound. Another recycling opportunity will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. Glass containers and 100 percent aluminum cans will be bought. The location for the drive is the parking area behind Chuck's Quick 0)1 Change, on W. Elm Street. Access is made via Borden Street. drop to $3,100 after the initial year of local funding.
