Wright, McHenry's third runner, will be an important factor if the Warriors are to win their fourth straight conference title tomorrow. performer last season, and has more doubles victories than other girl in McHenry tennis history. Ranked second on the doubles side is Sue Belli and Dorene Harp of Antioch, while Katie Schuh and Robin Bosman of Woodstock are third. In the singles half, sophomore Kathleen Meyer of Woodstock, last year's sectional champ, is the number one seed. Liz Hallaert of Grant is second, Dawn Bissing of Anttoch third and Lisa Palmquist of Wood stock fourth. All four singles seeds finished in the same positions at last year's sectional. Woodstock is the favorite to win the team championship. TOMORROW, West Campus -- the home of McHenry County's boys' cross-country champions - will host the Fox Valley Conference meet. Coach Bill Hutchinson's running Warriors captured the county title last weekend behind county champion Chris Creutz. The varsity girls were fifth, led by a sixth-place finish from Pam Bradley. The girls' race will begin at 10 a.m., with the boys' event to follow at 10:45. The Warriors' stiffest op position should come from Dundee-Crown, a team which dealt McHenry its only con ference loss of the season last Thursday. The Chargers are led by Mike Buhrow, who finished ahead of Creutz in that race. Located in Carpenters ville, which is a Kane County municipality, Dundee- Crown was not involved in the county race Saturday. The Warriors' have the home course advantage. The West Campus course, winding and hilly, is one of the more difficult in the area. ANOTHER PLUS for McHenry in its quest to garner the conference crown is the large number of participants in the race. Runners from other teams should spread the gap between D-C's number three, four and five runners, McHenry ample opportunity to gain points. Terry Harth, the Warriors' number two runner, finished fourth in the county meet. Number three man J.R. Wright was 10th in that race, Mike Maksymiak 14th and Pat Donahue 15th. It was the fourth consecutive county championship for McHenry, and the team will try to duplicate the feat in the conference race tomorrow. McHenry has also held the FVC championship since 1961. Prior to that season, the Warriors won conference titles in the North Suburban in 1968, 1969 and 1975. »' _ • .continued from page 20 The other FVC teams are Jacobs, CL South, CL Central, Woodstock and Cary-Grove. TUESDAY marks the first night of competition in the McHenry Volleyball Regjonals. West Campus will be the site of competition in the Class AA event, as Crystal Lake South, Crystal Lake Central, John- sburg, Woodstock, Wauconda and the Warriors will be in volved. . Area Soccer McHenry Area Soccer Federation Three teams scored eight or more goals, and, for the second consecutive week, one player netted seix goals as scoring continued at a furious pace last Saturday in McHenry Area Soccer Federation action. In fact, of the 31 teams that reported results, only eight of them were shut out. Leading the way was Tim Albright of the Black team in the under-8 age division. He netted six of his team's nine goals last week. Jeff Spung added two and Robbie Kinsey had the other. The Orange team in tjie under- 10 age group also had a nine-goal game. Joey Mazurek scored four times, Jason Lima three times and Nicky Spadaro twice. The eight-goal game was registered by the Purple Pirates in the under-8 age group. Sean Nellis had a three-goal "hat trick" and Nathan Druml (two goals), Jason Matchen, Kristen Zid and James Lemaster also found the net. „ Other "hat tricks" were registered by Jason Faunt (Gray team in the under-12 age division) and Paul Thomas (Royal Blue team in the under-8 class). In other news, the MASF may be playing some other league games next year in the John- sburg area. The MASF Board voted last week to pay half the cost of a set of goal posts for a field on Johnsburg School District property. The field would apparently be designed for teams in the under-8 age division. The field could be used by gym classes during school hours. Both teams had entered the contest undefeated in Fox Valley Conference pipy. During the first half, the game was fairly even. During the second half, the White Lightning dominated, but couldn't find the net. In a scrimmage against Cary last week, the White Lightning suffered its first defeat of the fall season by a 3-0 score. The White Lightning came back, however, to defeat the Wood stock "Green" team 8-1 in another scrimmage. The next game for the White Lightning will be Saturday against Montini at Knox Park. The match will begin at 4:30 p.m. Plaindralrr Herald Photo by C l»r is. j-usvw Pam Bradley has been the leader for the Warrior girls team in l9Mr7 - fl • _ - i r ,1 f * LUNCH AT ST.
