Skyhawks shut out Wauconda , WAUCONDA - The John- sburg Skyhawk football tearii raised its record to 3-4 with a 14- 0 shutout over the Bulldogs here Saturday. The Skyhawks, 2-3 in the Northwest Suburban, will host Round Lake Saturday, and close out the season against Grant in Fox Lake Nov. 2. Wauconda, which dropped to 1-4,1-6, was never reaUy in the ballgame, as a staunch Skyhawk defense picked off four Bulldog aerials and limited the home team to negative-16 yards rushing in the second half. "WE PLAYED outstandin defense," Johnsburg coac Randy Oberembt said. "They (Wauconda) just never could get going." The Skyhawk mentor cited the play of Bob Bentz, who dumped m$ Wauconda signal-caller 9&ind the line of scrimmage on --three separate occasions. Offensively, Johnsburg rebounded from the loss of standout wide receiver Bill Brown, who was lost last week with a knee injury. But the loss of the leading Skyhawk receiver didn't deter quarterback Mark DuRei from tossing the football at Will. The senior quarterback was 13-foF20 on the day, for 160 yards and two touchdowns - both to Mark Dumelle. DuRei has thrown for 918 yards on the year. The first was a seven-yard strike in the first quarter. Mike Majercik's point-after gave Johnsburg a 7-0 lead. In the second stanza, DuRei hit Johnsburg didn't turn the ball over at aU, his PA ^ame points "IT WAS A good win for us," Oberembt said. "We had been down a little bit (after a 14-10 homecoming loss to Grayslake), but this was a nice victory to get. We had a good day." The Skyhawks limited Wauconda's passing attack to 6- for-15 on the day, with four in terceptions. The Bulldogs could muster just three first downs in the game. On the other side of the coin, as Dumelle helped the cause by gathering in nine DuRei passes for 82 yards. "He really picked up the slack," Oberembt said. "We really should have scored more points," he admitted. "We blew a couple chances to really put them away. But we feel real {good about this win. We needed Oberembt admitted two more wins, which would give John sburg a 5-4 record, would make the Skyhawk season. "We'd feel we had a good year if we could win these last two. After last season (when the Skyhawks were 7-2) when we did so well, we were looking for consistency in the program. A 5-4 record would be great." Great, but not easy. "W '̂ll have to beat Round Lake first. (The Panthers are 0- 5, 1-6). And then look toward Grant," Oberembt said. Grant's only-conference loss was suffered at the hands of Marian Central Friday night, 40- 18. The Bulldogs are 5-2 overall.
