Rdclwdt Emmy Award-winning actress Jane EUiot, one of soap opera's best-fcnown villainesses. is back -- and . ABC has got her. First she was Tracy Quart ermaine on ABC's "General Hospital." then Miss BKot moved to the CBS network where she took on the role of Carrie Todd on "Guiding Light." After her stint on "GL" Miss ENot took some time off from the soaps to await - the birth of her now 6- month-okl son. But Miss EHiot's back once again. This time she's taken on the new role of Cynthia Preston on "All My Chidren." • "I came back to daytime because it was time for me to do so. I chose the role of Cynthia because my hus band (Luis Rojas) wanted to move back to New York." says Miss Elliot, who was offered three other soap opera rotes. Alas, they were on the West Coast, and thus she turned them down. "I find working in episo dic television or films much harder than working in daytime." she says. Miss .Elliot has appeared in numerous prime-time shows as well ds the TV films. "Once an Eagle" and "In the Matter of Karen Ann Quintan." "I've gotten won derful roles in daytime television." Comparing Cynthia to the other characters she's portrayed on daytime TV. Miss Elliot says: "Cynthia has much more of a sense of humor than Tracy or Carrie, who was crazy as a bed bug. Cynthia is very self-sufficient, very inde pendent. and she's a survi vor. She's a lot of fun to play." continued Miss Elli ot, who's celebrating her 20th year in show business. When Miss Elliot isn't appearing on "AMC," she spends her time at her Connecticut home with Rojas, (who's playing "Mr. Mom" at the moment until he resumes his career as a TV cameraman), their son Adrian and Rojas's son Sean. 0WM Computog Michael Spound of "Hotel" © By Wandy Wallace As Dave Kendall, the bellhop/law student who works for the St. Gregory Hotel on "Hotel." (Wednesdays on ABC). Michael Spound finds himself pushing guests' lug gage to their rooms. Yet had it not been for the little push from his father off the Little League field and into acting, he might not be enjoying the fruits of his craft "One day when I was 6 years old. my dad dragged me into the chorus of 'The King & I." I remember I had no idea what I was doing yet I remember it was such a won derful thing for a little kid You don't know what's going on but you know you're liking it. the audience is liking it and somehow you get the bug. "Later on, I wanted to become a baseball player or an actor," Spound continues. "I couldn't throw a bad in high school so I decided I'd better stick to acting. It was some thing that came naturally." Spound feels the audience can identify with Dave and his wife. Megan, played by Heidi Bohay, as "the working class people." "The wonderful thing about -Oave and Megan is that they are poor and trying to make ends meet. That's a nice little hook which separates us from the rest of the show. They're very identifiable. Dave is basical ly me. So I try to take what they give me and sneak in a little of this and a little of that." And although the show is sometimes compared to "Love Boat," that other popular Aaron Spelling produc tion, Spound disagrees. "We are a soap opera that revolves around the characters. It takes a long time in a show like this to develop good character. But it all gets done. I think a lot of things contribute to the show's success. I've never worked with a crew that was this good. We aU get along together. There are no ego problems because we're alt different. There is no competition among the cast. . "The producers also put so much love into the show. The cast is happy and puts that much more love into it. And I think that love comes across on the screen." The actor has several goals beyond "Hotel." "I'm really having a lot Of fun with the show and, knock on wood, it will last a while and then I'll move on. Ideally. I'd like to combine a film and theater career. That's what I studied, the stage, and that's what 1 love. I think the only way an actor can stretch and grow is to do stage work. I miss doing it a lot. Theater has its own line all the time. It's got to be real. I find the best place to grow and to learn your craft is on the stage." ©* Eight Is Winslow. 1952. © MOVIE: Tho Quean's Guards' A hard, tough fighting force eorns their rights to protect their country's Queen.
