FACE S BPW Foundation boosts career development ot women The Business k Professional Women's Foundation was established by working women in 1996 to improve the career development of women in the labor force. It is a national grantmaking foundation and approximately one-half of its support is derived from BPW members; the remaining half is from the corporate and foun­ dation communities. Since 1956, $1,901,OOdhas been awarded to 4,350 women. Two women from McHenry have been awarded grants, Judy Irwin and Rondi Cunat. A special week The National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs of the United States (BPW-USA) 'began National Business Women's Week in 1928 "to dramatize women's contributions to the economic, social and political life of the community, state, nation, and the world." For 56 years, special activities have been sponsored by the fedration and its local Organizations to honor the working woman. Over the years, National Business Women's Week has become an event widely recognized by the public and private institutions and local communities. The president of the United States, at the request of BPW- USA, declares the third full week in October to be National Business Women's Week; governors - and mayors often issue similar proclamations at the urging of state federations and local BPW organizations. National Business Women's Week % highlights the achievements of working women and their essential place in the U.S. labor force. In the past 40 year^, the number of working wom^non America has tripled, exceeding 47 million.
