A proper diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease will spell out the direction to go. Some of the same symptoms indicate other illnesses that are rever sible. While Parkinson's disease, strokes and depression can produce the same symp toms, these diseases are treatable and some are reversible, or can be cured. Counseling for the family of an Alzheimer's patient helps them cope with their emotions, sort out their needs, and refers them to the available agencies. Each person is unique and each family has its own set of strengths and problems so it is important to assess each case. One of the greatest helps is the support groups, that are evolving for families, such as the local group which meets monthly at Family Alliance in 1.2 miles south of the village of Richmond. The second hearing will be at 2 p.m., Nov. 28, on a request for reclassification from B-i Neighborhood Business District to B-2 Liquor Business District. The groups meet regularly and accomplish several necessary tasks: education on Alzheimer's disease, up-date on recent research, and sharing. The sharing of experiences and feelings is the most valuable. The group offers a safe place to release the frustrations that only another family member can really understand. Through their own experience, they offer coping methods and acceptance that cannot be found through professionals.
