Crime of the Week Tliis week Crime Stoppers is seeking information on an in­ cident of vandalism and arson that could have resulted in a tragedy in Marengo. Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, November [Lan alert Marengo patrolmainBstovered a fire on the Chicago Nor­ thwestern railroad tracks near Prospect Street in Marengo. Someone had piled railroad ties on the tracks and set them ablaze. v The suspect left behind two five-gallon Shell oil cans that had probably contained an accelerant used to start the fire. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards of up to $1,000 for in­ formation leading to the arrest and filing of criminal charges against offenders. If you have any information on the person or persons responsible for this incident of vandalism in Marengo, or information on any other crimes, call Crime Stoppers at (815) 459-4800. All callers remain anonymous-one never needs to give a name. Crime Stoppers, which is sponsored by the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, assigns secret numbers to annonymous callers who provide in­ formation. Callers are in­ structed to call back at regular intervals to find out if any suspects have been arrested as a result of confidential in­ formation given. If there are arrests, the Crime Stoppers board of directors then meets to determine an ap­ propriate reward- A secret meeting is arranged to tnakfe the cash reward payments.
