Children and adults can enjoy a meal with Santa at The County \ Inn restaurant from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sun­ day between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Life-sire figures and live animals will be featured in a live Nativity scene, illuminated after dark. Homemade products are available in many of The Lambs' shops, which serve as work and training centers for the program's mentally retarded men and women. Preserves, cheese, honey and chocolates are a few to the products in colorful gift packages at The Country Store. Hand-screened holiday greeting cards, note paper, stationary, and Christmas Tree ornaments are among the gift selections available at the gift shop. v '< A bakery features butter cookies, fruit breads and other treats. In the Pet, Shop, a variety of puppies, kittens, birds and tropical fish, as well as pet supplies are available. All proceeds from purchases inade in the shops directly benefit The Lambs, which offers jobs, job training, housing and social support services to mentally retarded adults. " V ' f ' f MCCD The next regular meeting of the McHenry County Con­ servation District Board of Directors will take place at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6 at the district office, 6512 Harts Road, Ringwood. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dec. 7, 1944) Clarence Freund and Daniel Coon^y were two McHenry boys among representatives of 47 states, the Districtpf Columbia and Puerto Rico who received wings and commissions as navigators in the army air forces on Nov. 25. Their next assignment will be combat. Mrs. Mary Kennedy Ryan, One of the first property owners in the Lilymoor subdivision, died Nov. 29. The Suburban Oil Company, well known in this vicinity, in­ stalled a new asphalt plant on Route 14, one mile east of Route 31, that promises to prove beneficial in further develop­ ments throughout this area. The Peter M. Justen Fur- niture Company advertised "beautiful chairs to add comfort and color to any room", $24.50 to 184. TWENTY FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dec. 3, 1959) Little Cofleen Doherty pushed the button which lighted the noel and Christmas candles, the candy canes and toy soldiers which brightened McHenry for the holiday season. The Chamber of Commerce and the city council are uniting to finance the five-year plan of lighting designed to make McHenry one of the brightest cities in northern Illinois this Christmas season. Paul E. Gerasch, 59, for many years a business man in McHenry, died Dec.l, in St. Theresa hospital, Waukegan, where he had been confined for less than a day. The Right Rev. Msgr. Joseph Wagner, superintendent of schools in the diocese of Joliet, will preach the dedication sermon at the Solemn Pontifical Mass to be offered by His Ex­ cellency, Loras T. Lane, D.D., Bishop of Rockfprd, on the oc­ casion of the dedication rites for the new Marian Central Catholic high school, McHenry county's new institution of Catholic secondary education. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Dec. 4, 1974) Eleven accidents in the McHenry-Wonder Lake area marked the arrival df the first snow and resulting icy road conditions over the weekend. Walter Dean was re-elected to a second two-year term as county board chairman. Dean was one of four county board members elected from District 2. The others were Edward Buss, Thomas Huemann and Willis Simms. The McHenry high Warriors of Coach Ken Ludwig came home with the third place trophy at the King Korn Tournament held at Sycamore. Thirteen members of the McHenry Sweet Adelines at­ tended the fall meeting of Region 3, International Organization of Sweet Adelines, in Springfield. Members of the "Happy Times Four" quartet won a comedy first place in the category of audience reaction with their presentation of "I'm All Alone."
