DECEMBER Schools 1*4 : t I i School briefs COMMITTEE MEETING Johnsburg Consolidated Unit School District 12 announces a building and grounds committee meeting, which will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11 in the Johnsburg High School gymnasium. The agenda will include discussion on high school bleachers aluminum track, classroom sound buffer and a school use question. '+ BENEFIT The Metropolitan Brass Quintet, of Chicago, will be performing a concert sponsored by the Booster Club at Crystal Lake South High School. All proceeds will be used to pur­ chase bleachers for the football field. The concert will be Saturday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. Call the high school for ticket in­ formation. MARCHING BAND Debbie Allen, a 1964 graduate of McHenry High School East Campus, is a member of the Illinois State University mar­ ching band. She is the daughter of Larry and Diane Allen, of McHenry. Allen is a freshman at ISU, majoring in music therapy. HONOR ROLL Beth H. Fox, of McHenry, has been named to honor roll at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colo. To be named to the honor roll, a student must maintain a grade point of 3.5 or better. MASTER'S DEGREES Candy Spasojevich and Bobbie Fossum, her mother, both of McHenry, recently received their Master's degrees in business from the National College of Education. Poem wins prize An honorable mention was the prize for Corey White, when judges read her poem in the Barrington Area Library poetry contest recently. A sixth grader at Johnsburg Junior High, White's poem was one of several submitted by the students. Other entries were turned in by Amy Dritlein, Chris Hogan, Jessica Freund, Cathie Smith, Debbie Seely, Shaun Kelly, Rana Sundell and others. Her poem was entitled: Halloween Night Halloween's a creepy night For ghosts and goblins And things that fright. Children are dressed In their Halloween best Looking for people to scare. Students are inducted to National Honor Society Twenty-nine juniors and seniors at Johnsburg High School were inducted into the National Honor Society at a recent ceremony. The new officers-Cris May, president; Sheri Scavo, vice- president; Debbie Tvaroh, secretary; and Ed Foster, treasurer-conducted the candlelight ceremony and ad­ dressed scholarship, leadership, character and service. Cheryl Olson, an English teacher at JHS, was the guest speaker and spoke on excellence. The National Honor Society was formed in 1921 by the National - Association of Secondary School Principals. The society is a concrete way to promote high academic stan­ dards, a means of ensuring continued democracy and an instrument for the betterment of the individual and the school. Senior members include Mark DuRei, Mary Dvorak, Ed Foster, Lisa Hartigan, Lisa Kelly, Tim Koeller, Rob Kretz- schmar, Laura Long, Mark Majercik, Cris May, Tom Meehan, Todd Newton, Jeff Nichols, Jim Owen, Sheri Scavo, Patti Schmitt, Bob Slack, Ralph Stark, Mike Steffens, Cindy Swinford, Ray Tantillo, Debbie Tvaroh and Bernard Wharton. Juniors inducted Nov. 26 are Kim Abell, Kathy Beitz, Sandy Bogacz, Tom Buccelli, Patti HBwfler; Larry-Gibson;- Bev Hiller, Cindy Lane, Tom Maiorca, Bill Meyer, Chris O'Donohue, Laura Oefflin; Amy Vayo, Tammy Wettste: and Tony Zaremba. Full scholarship (or area girl Lori Ann Kuczwara, daughter of David and Violet Kuczwara, has been awarded a full scholastic scholarship to Nor­ thwestern University. She will begin working toward in her doctorate degree Audiology in January.
