Evergreen walk set The McHenry County Con servation District is sponsoring a Sunday afternoon walk through the evergreen forest at Kunde Woods, which is part of the Marengo Ridge Con servation Site, at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 9. The annual "Kunde Conifers" program has been a popular family outing in the past, and will be led this year by MCCD volunteer Ed Collins. Collins will relate the story of how the conifers came to grow in an area where hardwood trees normally dominate. Roughly 20 acres of land at Marengo Ridge is oc cupied by pines, spruces, firs, junipers and oth^r needle- leaved trees. The leisurely-paced, 1.5 mile walk will offer participants a chance to enjoy fresh air and exercise as well as learn about the tree species that are grown elsewhere in plantations for Christmas trees. No pre-registration is necessary for the public program, but further in formation is available from the district office at (815) 338-1405 or 678-443K Participants should dress warmly for the winter season program. Nominations are being ac cepted for the national "Con servation Teacher-of-the-Year" awards program according to George Dahm, chairman of the McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD).
