Alcohol or other drugs are thought to be a factor in from 55 to 75 percent of all highway fatalities. Some studies put the figure as high as 90 percent. ; In conjunction with National Drunk and Drugged Driving Awareness Week, the Illinois DUI Task Force will submit its interim report to the governor that will make specific recommendations to further combat drunk driving. Participate in this special week by assuring that neither you nor your friends drink and drive: -If you drink alcohol, let a friend drive or call a cab. -Be a responsible host. Stop serving drinks early and make sure intoxicated guests don't drive. -Designate a driver. Have one person in your group refrain from drinking to assure a safe trip home. -Use medications with care. Many prescriptions may impair driving ability. Check with your doctor or pharmacist. -Don't mix alcohol and drugs. For example, one antihistamine with a drink may double the impairment effect of both. Be aware of the dangers of drunk and drugged driving and have a safe holiday season. Santa is coming to town Dec. 15 (Jklulay r/if\ writes Jantzen Santa Claus is coming to town on Saturday, Dec. 15.
