The program, sponsored by "/ the Christmas committee of the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, is open to all merchants and all residents who live in the McHenry and-or Johnsburg school districts. There is no entry fee required. Judging for both contests will take (dace Dec. 15 through 18, by a panel of five impartial judges. Trophies will be awarded for Local police and County Sheriff's Department officers throughout McHenry and Lake counties, with the assistance of the respective County States Attorney's offices, are working in conjunction with Lakes Cablevision in an effort to crackdown on the theft of cable television services. Hie McHenry County Sheriff's Police recently arrested McHenry residents David Anderson, Michael Fitzgerald, Clay Messina and Kenneth Wahl on charges of unlawful use of cable service. In addition Alex Bingman of McHenry, Tom Jacobi of Ingleside and Hugh McGinley of Elgin were arrested on charges of unlawful sale of cablevision equipment. Warrants have also been issued for other individuals. Present investigations have uncovered a group of individuals manufacturing, distributing and selling illegal decoders for the three premium channels - Disney, Showtime and Playboy-in both McHenry and Lake County areas. These ac­ tions not only constitute a class "A" misdemeanor with penalties of up to a $1,000 fine and or up to one year in jail, but also makes the alleged violators liable for civil suit for an amount up to three times the estimated loss of revenue. Officers of Lakes Cablevision said that their estimates for current monthly losses through theft of service amounts to over $20,000. even though a number of individuals were convicted for theft of services approximately two years ago. They stated that these offenses will not be tolerated and that a continuous auditing process is in effect, to find and prosecute violators. To insure implementation, Lakes has a fulltime security staff trained by the McHenry County Sheriff's Department. T .akes Cablevision is Dresentlv offering amnesty to any ta dividuals possessing any type of illegal devices if the devices ire brought into Lakes' main office located at 2508 W. Route 120, McHenry. Commercial vegetable growers in the McHenry County area are invited to learn possible ways to improve production by attending the 1985 Northeastern Illinois Vegetable Growers School on Thursday, Jan.3. The day-long educational seminar will be held at the Timbers Restaurant, Route 14 Bypass and Highway 47, Woodstock. Topics of this years' program were chosen by a planning committee made up of growers from within McHenry County, according to Bruce Spangeberg, horticulture adviser with the McHenry County Cooperative Extension Service. For more information, contact Man dies in head-on collision A Woodstock man, died Wednesday evening from in­ juries he suffered in a head-on collision with a semi-trailer truck on U.S. 14 near Harvard in late afternoon, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Department. Kory Donald Horner, 20, 410 Ridgeland, was pronouned dead at 6:43 p.m. at St. Anthony Hospital, Rockford. He was transported to the hospital by helicopter following the 4:35 p.m. accident, which occurred north of the Garfield Street intersection. W Preliminary investigation by sheriff's police indicated that the vehicle driven by Horner was northbound on Route 14 when it crossed the center line and struck the truck driven by Edward L. Stenli of Stoughton, Wfr. Stenli, 45, was treated and released from Harvard Com­ munity Memorial Hospital, sheriff's police said. Jta investigation by sheriff's police is continuing, according to reports.
