James R. Thompson announced that the Illinois Tax Amnesty program brought in $127.5 million in back taxes ' Last minute filers, including some large corporations, paid millions of dollars boosting the total to unanticipated levels, Thompson said. "Remember that 25 percent to 30 percent of this money represents local sales and replacement taxes, which must be distributed to local govern ments," he noted. Also included in the figures are tax dollars from some in dividual 5 and businesses that do not qualify for amnesty. The law excludes taxpayers who fail to pay their full liability, who are currently under criminal in vestigation or who had a case pending in a state court. The two-month amnesty program attracted applicants from 44 states, District of Columbia and a dozen foreign countries. Wonder Lake man's book hits the stores I**. ̂ A McHenry area man recently published his first book which has recently hit the booksellers' racks. Written by Ed Fish, of Wonder Lake, "My Life As A Robot" spins a tale of Fish's many experiences providing the voice, personality and control for Mr. Robot. He has found that through the little humanoid, he can reach out to people in ways he could not as a human. In his travels with the robot, Fish has traveled to nearly every major city in the U.S. He has also been to Europe, the Middle East, South America and Africa. Wherever he has gone, he has found that people talk more intimately to Mr. Robot than they would to an ordinary stranger. One of Fish's most bizarre experiences came when he went to Saudi Arabia with Mr. Robot. A Saudi customs agent,, superstitious about the robot's humanoid shape, refused to allow the head into the country. After a frantic contact with the U.S. Embassy, the entire robot was allowed to complete the trip. Mr. Robot is one of S h o w A m e r i c a ' s m a n y promotional robots that are leased with an actor-operator from the company headquarters in Elmhurst, or one of its operations in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and London. The company has grown considerably since its founding in 1967 by J.W. Anderson. Now in its seventh generation of elec tronics, all of the circuitry is of the company's design and the robots are built in Elmhurst. Many large companies-like DuPont, Ciba-Geigy, 3M, Time, Inc., etc-have made use of ShowAmerica's robots. These companies have found that the combination of insight, wit and subtle selling displayed by performers like Ed Fish make for a great means of en tertaining and conveying marketing messages. Don't believe it? Maybe "My Life As A Robot" will convince you. t 'mmm »< V® THESE SPECIAL ITEMS GOOD IN OUR WOODSTOCK STORE ONLY.
