Winners of essay contest are announced -The winners in a Short Story Writing Contest sponsored by the Friends of the McHenry- Nunda Library, were decided upon by Mrs. Cindy Swartzloff, former English teacher at McHenry West Campus High School, assisted by Mrs. Anne Stumpf, trustee of the McHenry- Nunda Library Board. $50 savings bonds were presented by Vicki Delp and Lorry Deeke, members of the Friends of the McHenry-Nunda Library, to Shawn Morris of Parkland School in the seventh and eighth grade division for his story "K.G.B.'s Top Red Dog: Ivan Hoovirvich" and Kay la Gartner, also of Parkland, in the sixth grade division for "Big Mouth". Second prize winners in both categories and both students at Parkland were Dan Sweetwood for "Choose Your Own Ad­ venturer Drive" and Jessica Busch for "My Secret In­ vention". Third place awards were given to Brendan Curran for "The Drean" and Matt Smulski of Montini Middle School for "Snowbark". Honorable mentions were Jim Walters, Jenny Thomas, Tabitha Kenny, and Jenny Jenson from Parkland. The honorable mentions frpm Montini were Gregory Keller and Suellen Lawncizak.
