The Red Cross office moved in early December to new quarters at 200 N. Benton, just off the square. For the past 30 months, the organization's county headquarters was located on Throop Street. The new facilities offer space for the numerous community education, first aid and car­ diopulmonary resuscitation courses offered by the private agency. The building also has room for some of the many volunteers who make Red Cross programs a success, and the larger building affords the Red Cross the opportunity to hold onsite blood drives, Easton said. Some of the programs the Red Cross is sponsoring in January include multi-media courses for instructors and a class to educate instructors for the "First Aid for Little People" class, which teaches first aid to youngsters/in grades one througtLihsee. In February, the Red Q^oss pfllieach courses on CPR. Conunuttig through this month is the Red Cross fund drive for drought victims in Ethiopia. Easton said $1,000 has been raised so far in McHenry County. • "That's good, but I'd like so see it better," said Easton, who added that all money con­ tributed to the African relief goes directly for supplies, and none of the money is used for overhead or administration. Nargelenas, has announced the latest figures which indicate that during the month of December, 1984, 124 persons died from injuries sustained from traffic accidents on Illinois streets and highways. State Police, District 2, which covers Lake, McHenry, DeKalb, Kane and DuPage Counties, reports 238 persons have been killed in those counties since Jan. 1 of 1984. A total of 211 persons were also killed during the same period in 1983 in those counties. ', A breakdown of the counties ̂ for statistics in December, 1984 shows Lake County, three fatalities; McHenry County had 10 fatalities; DuPage County had four fatalities; Kane County had four fatalities and DeKalb County, no fatalities. As a comparison for December of 1983, Lake County had two fatalities; McHenry County had three fatalities; DuPage County had eight fatalities; Kane County had five fatalities; and DeKalb County had one fatality. There have been 1,546 persons killed in the entire state in 1984. were 1,537 persons killed the same time period of 1983 showing an increase of nine.
