Mothers march against birth defects set SECTION2-PAGE 5-PLAINDEALER-HERALD. WEDNESDAY. JANUARY 2S. IMS The 1985 Mothers March for the March of Dimes BirtE Defects Foundation will be held in McHenry on Saturday, Jan. 26, and Sunday, Jan. 27, to continue efforts to prevent birth defects, the nation's number one child health problem. Mothers- and families throughout America will be visiting their neighbors to spread /the March of Dimes message and to help raise much needed funds to continue the fight against birth defects. The Mothers March began in 1960 in Phoenix, Arizona. The oldest fund-raising drive of its kind, it now takes place each year in more than 600 March of Dimes chapte* throughout the country. Mothers March contributions make it possible to conduct programs of research, medical services, public and professional education. Local programs include sponsoring the "Seminars for Parents on Adolescent Pregnancy" program at McHenry County College; sponsoring Dr. Willian Larsen from Memorial Hospital in Woodstock to attend a Maternal Nutrition Conference in North Carolina; also the distribution of films and other educational materials to local service agencies such as the Pioneer Center for the Ex ceptional in McHenry, McHenry County Youth Service Bureau in Woodstock, and the schools in Crystal Lake. Preventing birth defects gives every baby the chance to be born healthy and whole. "When a Mothers March volunteer comes to the door, won't you consider giving generously to this worthwhile v cause?" requests McHenry's Mothers March co-chairwoman Linda Hadick. For more information call Linda at 675-6336 or Pam Wickenkamp at 675-6288.
