The designated driver program, promoted by the McHenry County Com prehensive Alcohol Safety Project, is one of the best ways to prevent drinking and driving accidents, said Sgt. George Corson, project director. "Most people don't consider alternative transportation means if the person who drove to a bar or party becomes in toxicated," said Sgt. Corson. Conditional use zoning sought for preschool A petition has been filed for hearing before the McHenry County Zoning Board of Appeals by petitioners Jane G. Starck, J tin L. Cichucki and Penny Hildebrandt Cichucki, contract purchasers, and Crystal Lake Montessori School, a not for profit corporation of the State of Illinois for a conditional use to the McHenry County Zoning Ordinance's "E-3", estate district. The permit would allow the petitioners to operate a school for preschool and elementary age children. The property is located in Dorr Township, on the west side of Country Club Road, between the crossroads of Robin Hill Drive and McConnell Road, Woodstock, and consists of approximately 3.71 acres. The hearing on the petition will be held on Feb. 7, at 2 p.m., in Room 203 of the McHenry County Courthouse, 2200 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. All those who are interested may appear and be heard. "Those who have had too much to drink don't give up their keys very easily, and they don't always respond to logic." The designated driver program, he said, can help avoid a dangerous and embarassing situation. One person from the group is selected before the group starts drinking to serve as the designated driver. .That individual refrains from drinking alcohol and is responsible for driving everyone home safely afterward. At the next party or outing, another person is selected to assume the responsibility. The respon sibility simply rotates and safety is provided for everyone. ' 'The program is advocated by the McHenry County Com prehensive Alcohol Safety Project, and other organizations interested in preventing drinking and driving accidents because it works," Sgt. Corson said. "It's been successful fct European countries for years, "In Sweden and the United Kingdom, for example^ designated drivers often place their car keys in their empty beverage glasses so that hostSn and hostesses will not1 encourage them to drink alcohol." According to McHenry County Comprehensive Alcohol Safety Project statistics, alcohol is I factor in at least half of all fatal motor-vehicle accidents in the United States, resulting in about 25,000 deaths each year. Sgt. Corson said the most dangerous time to drive is on a Friday or Saturday eve when alcohol-impaired drh are trying to get home. MADE THE 115 LB. DIFFERENCE! Ancients believed it would prevent drunkeness, from a legend connected with Bacchus, the god of wine. It is believed in general to guard against wiles of the spirit and is worn by many clergymen. Amethyst is widely available primarly from Brazil but also from Russia, the U.S., Ceylon and Madagascar. The finest color is considered to be deep purplish red. The paler the tone, the less costly.
