Before you start to seek out ticket information, it's not the boys teams, which met for the first time ever in regional play last year, which will face each other. It's the girls. The lady cagers from the two area schools have already faced each other once this season in a game won easily by the strong Skyhawks. The McHenry girls are winless on the season. THE PAIRINGS for the IHSA (Illinois High School Association) girls' regional tournaments were announced this week. Johnsburg will play host to one of the 56 Class AA regional events this time around, as McHenry, Crystal Lake Central and Woodstock will join the Skyhawks in the two-day tournament. The Skyhawks and the Warriors will tip things off at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 11, with the Central-Woodstock battle to follow. CLC currently sits atop the Fox Valley Conference standings, while Woodstock is in fourth place. Johnsburg is 12-4 overall, the Warriors are 0-11. The survivors of the two first- round duels will face each other Thursday night, March 14, at 7:30 p.m. J O H N S B U R G p l a y e d Woodstock In the Skyhawks' open ing game of the season, won by the Blue Streaks 49-42. The Skyhawks have won 11 of their last 13 ballgames. Woodstock is 7-8 overall. TRY r Platndealer-Herald photo by Chris Juzwik WRESTLERS (Continued from page 20) He could make it. Dumelle has the first and second guys in the state in his class (Kaifesh and Grant's Dave Rowden) but he may be third. It's hard to say at this point," Rankin noted. The four Skyhawks have been practicing at Crystal Lake South this week with some of the other area sectional qualifiers, and Roberts said that has been a bonus for JHS as well. "We haven't had three better days of practice," he said. "We've really gotten a lot out of it. Bentz has been wrestling Carnell all week." Rankin said he had planned on bringing his troop of regional- survivors to South, but with only Mann qualifying, Rankin had thought it more beneficial for the junior to work out with his team mates. Mann sports a 23-6 season record. "IT'S A great thing to get to know the guys better, and it's real healthy for camaraderie. Wrestl ing has a high degree of camaraderie, more than most sports," Rankin said. "I'm very excited about this weekend," Roberts said. "Predic ting is near impossible right now, but the bottom line is if the kids wrestle the weekend of their lives, they can all go to state, if not, they won't. It's as simple as that. "All of our wrestlers have the capability. I do think that all four should get beyond the first round. "One thing's for sure -- we'll be ready." If these five area grapplers want to move on, they had better be. Or else they'll have to park it. I ' they had fouled out SV's 6-foot-3 center and led by seven points at the 12:10 mark. The Scots upped that lead to a dozen points with just less than 10 minutes remaining when the proverbial roof fell in. Sauk Valley tied the score with 6:41 to play and went on a scoring tear that left them with a 69-60 lead with about 1:30 to play. "I don't mind losing to a team that's better than us. That's the way the game was meant to be played. What bothers me is losing to a team which we should have easily defeated," Edwards said. Dianne Pilgard paced the Scots with 20 points while Sue Hoppman added 14, Kecia Knudsen 12 and Michelle Zimmerman 10/ Wright at EIU CHARLESTON - Brian Wright of McHenry is a member of the men's track team at Eastern Illinois University, the school's sports information office has an nounced. I' "We're always happy to win, ; - but that wasn't the prettiest one » in the world, was it?" MCC { Coach Mike Capacico said. "Our • problem stemmed from not • shooting very well. We did not take good shots." "One thing I did like was our fast break. We haven't run the fast break like that in our last four or five games and it showed because we've lost a few of those," Capaccio said. "But our kids are tired. Some teams come in with eight, nine and 10 players and we go with six. That's all we have and that's what we have to go with." Newman and Bruce led the balanced Scots' attack with 22 points each while Russelberg added 17, Erksen 15 and Pete Dawson, who capped the game with a reverse jam, tossed in 12. JOHNSBURG (Continued frontpage 20) won't be the first. We just don't want him to go crazy on us and get 35 points. There are other players for them who can get the job done, too." BECK ' SAID Slimko is un doubtedly the best offensive player the Skyhawks have seen all season. "He can hit from outside, he can bring the ball up on you, or take you down low. Our kids have played against him in a summer league, so they've had a taste of him." Beck will most likely have use of season, with the return of junior Mike Toussaint from an arm in jury. "We don't know for sure," Beck noted Wednesday night. That would really be kinda nice. "We like to go out with a couple wins, being at home and all," Beck said. "Lake Zurich has been playing well, I expect a close ballgame there," And Jacobs? "We'll have to figure something out unce we start looking at them. They're tough." SPORT FANS.., I BET YOU DIDNT KNOW Brought to you by Phil Ouffllng Here's an amaiing fact<tyat shows you can still hm peat success in sports even if you fait many times Ty Cobb, who had the highest li fetime batting average in big league baseball history (.367), actually failed to get a hit in more that SEVEN-THOUSAND times at bat!... Cobb went to bat 11.437 times in his big lea gue career and made 4.192 hits for his .367 average. But that also means he failed to hit in 7.245 at bats- yet he was the greatest hit ter ever Did you know there are more than 20 players in the National Basketball Association this year who are over 7 feet tall!! It's a little-known fact that quarteback Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League almost became a big league baseball player instead of an NFL qarterback... Marino was such a good baseball player in high school that he was drafted by Kansas City of the American League, but he decided to stick to football I bet you didn't know that now thru February McHenry State Bank has lowered its Consumer Installment Loan Rates!
