SECfUWN 2TtlpAGE 2 - IM.AlNULALLK-HKHALI), WKDNES1)A\ , KKBHI AIU 27,19«5 Schools Tuition takes a hike at five universities McHenry area students at tending any of the colleges or universities in the Board of Governors system will face a five percent tuition hike this fall. At a Feb. 21 meeting at Cld^goState University (CSU), the board voted to make the increase, the smallest since - -Hie schools involved in the -im are Chicago State iversity (Chicago), Eastern Illinois University (Charleston), Governor's State University (University Park), Nor theastern Illinois University (Chicago) and Western Illinois University (Macomb). "The modest increase in the level which the board for 1985-86 is in sharp to the increases in the Pfut four years which were ipore than 10 percent per year," s&id Thomas D. Layzell, executive director. 'Board member James L. Althoff, of McHenry, com mented, "After the increases in the past couple of years, I very frankly had hoped there would be zero increase this year. Since the added revenue is projected and the state's economy has improved, it seemed the state might have come up with enough money to run this system without another tuition increase. Obviously, this is not possible. In view of that, I support the five percent in crease." v Tuition levels jumped 10.5 percent in 1983-84 and 12.2 percent in 1984-85. > As a result of the board's action, state residents will pay an additional $54 per academic year to attend a system university in fall. Tuition levels for full-time, in-state residents will be $1,020 for freshman and sophomore students, $1,068 for junior and senior students and $1,152 for graduate students. MP Mil GRADUATE * Wendy J.
