O'Brien, 91, 7707 Cedar Rd., Wonder Lake, died Saturday, March 2, 1985 in Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, Woodstock. She was born Oct. 23,1893, in Chicago, to Valmore and Elizabeth (Reid) Duge. Mrs. O'Brien had been a resident of Wonder Lake the past 43 years; was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Wonder Lake; and the ladies. sodality. Surviving are a son Francis (Sandy) of Ringwood; three g r a n d c h i l d r e n , T h o m a s (Walterine) O'Brien and Mrs. Roland (Sharon) Hoffman, both of Wonder Lake, and Patricia Evans of Chesapeake, Va.; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas M., in 1979; a son Thomas V.; a daughter Charlotte O'Brien; and one great-grandchild. Visitation was held Sunday afternoon and evening in Justen's Wonder Lake Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Christ the King church, with Father Dorrance Tranel of­ ficiating, and interment was in the church cemetery. Memorials are requested to the Wonder Lake Fire Depart­ ment. Josephine M. Roble Josephine M. Roble, 87, 3009 Mourine Ln., McHenry, died Friday, March 1, 1985, in her residence. She was born Jan. 27, 1899, in Poland. Mrs. Roble had been a resident of the McHenry area 35 years. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Luther (Eileen) Hickman of Lombard, 111., Mrs. Adele Richards of Roselle, 111. and Mrs. Glenn (Dolores) Maxson of Hebron, 111.; two sons, Edwin (Zoe) of Easton, Pa. and Michael of McHenry; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter. Visitation was held after 3:30 p.m. Monday in the George R. Justen & Son Funeral Home, where a funeral blessing was offered at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with Father Petit officiating. In­ terment was in St. Patricl Countryside Cemetery. Robert H.Scholz Robert Hans Scholz, 83, of McHenry died in his home Thursday, Feb. 28,1985. He was born in Berlin, Germany Jan. 16, 1902, the son of Robert and Frances (Geyser) Scholz. Mr. Scholz lived in McHenry 30 years. He was a retired dental technician and former co-owner of Oral Art Laboratory, Chicago. Surviving are his wife Marie S. (Rotter) whom he married Sept. 3, 1927 in Chicago; a son Robert H. Jr. (Frances) of North Oaks, Minn.; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Joan M.) Freund of McHenry; six grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Kern of Schiller Park, 111. Funeral services were con­ ducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Peter M. Justen & Son Funeral Home, with Pastor Roger W. Schneider officiating, and burial was in Woodland Cemetery, McHenry. Friends called from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions are requested to the McHenry Fire and Rescue Squad or the Heart Association. Lillian Huck Mrs. Lillian Huck, 87, for­ merly of 1611 N. Park St., McHenry, died 'Thursday, Feb. 28, in Crystal Pines Nursing Home, Crystal Lake where she had resided for a few weeks. She was born Jan. 3,1898 in Chicago, the daughter of Paul and Julie Schroeder. Mrs. Huck was a resident of McHenry 67 years. Before her retirement, she had been em­ ployed as a salesperson for Riverside Bake Shop, McHenry. She was a member of St. Patrick's Ladies Guild, and charter member of the former St. Patrick's School Mothers , Club. Her husband, Lawrence J. Huck, Sr., preceded her in death April 10, 1956. Surviving are a son Lawrence J. Jr. (Katherine); a daughter. Jean Sherwood; two grandsons. Michael Niska and Lawrence Huck, III, all of McHenry; and a granddaughter. Visitation was held Sunday in the Peter M. Justen & Son Funeral Home. Linda L.White Linda L. White, 35, of Island Lake, was pronounced dead by the coroner Wednesday, Feb. 27, 1985. She was born in Chicago July 7, 1949, the daughter of Anton and Margaret (Conrad) Sandrik. Mrs. White lived in Island Lake 30 years and had been employed by Precision Twist Drill Co., Crystal Lake. She is survived by a son Timothy of Island Lake; and two brothers, Kenneth J. Sandrik of McHenry and William A. Sandrik of Arlington, Va. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. Tuesday, until the time of services at 11 a.m. in the Peter M. Justen & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vincent Fish of­ ficiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery, McHenry. AnnaL. Sowers Anna Lucille Sowers, 80, of Hebron, 111., formerly of Ringwood, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 27,1985 in Valley Hi Nursing Home, Hartland, 111. She was born in Douglas County, 111. July 7, 1904, the daughter of Claus and Anna (Hansen) Tay. Mrs. Sowers married Byron G. Sowers May 13,1920, in Paris, 111. She was a piano teacher and a dressmaker for many years; a member of the Ringwood Methodist Church and various church groups. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sherman (Mary) Spencer of Wonder Lake and Mrs. Eugene (Betty) Garrison of Hebron; two sons, John (Irene) of Warwick, Rhode Island and Charles (Anne) of Wonder Lake; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.' Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. John (Louise) Roberts of Clinton, Tenn, Mrs. H. B. "Curly" (Eva) Parsons of Okalhoma City, Okla. and Mrs. Marie Romine of Longwood, Fla.; and a brother Leonard (Thelma) Tay of Tuscola, 111. Funeral services were con­ ducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Ringwood Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gordon Smith officiating, and interment was in Ringwood Cemetery. Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday in Ehorn-Adams Funeral Home. Hebron. Memorials may be made in her name to the Ringwood Methodist Church or the Hebron Rescue Squad. Cyrus M. Avery Cyrus M. Avery, 85, of McHenry, died Monday, March 4, 1985, in Northern Illinois Medical Center, McHenry. He was born in Peoria, HI. May 29, 1899, the son of Cyrus and Minnie Avery. Mr. Avery lived in McHenry since 1973, having come from Lake Forest, 111. He was a 40- year employee of Moore Business Forms, Inc. of Glen- view, 111., retiring as regional manager. Surviving are his wife Edith (Schoenfeld) whom he married Oct. 27, 1928, in Peoria; a daughter, Mrs. Joan Bevington of Cleveland, Ohio; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother. Funeral services and burial were private, and arrangements were made by the Peter M. Justen & Son Funeral "Home. Presentation set tonight on learning disabilities Mrs. Ruth Tofanelli, executive director of Summit School, will give a presentation on "Lear­ ning Disabilities, Past, Present, Future" at Husmann School (formerly Central Elementary School) in Crystal Lake on Wednesday, March 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tofanelli completed her un­ dergraduate work at the College of St. Francis, Joliet, and her Master of Science in Education at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb. For eight years she was both an itinerant and a classroom teacher for children with minimal brain damage of Elgin School District U-46. Tofanelli has been a guest lecturer for numerous University Special Education classes and has lectured throughout the U.S. to parent- teacher groups concerned with children with minimal brain damage. She conducted a four year research project with Dr. Mortimer Gross on the effects of medication on behavior and academic progress of brain­ damaged children. She was a member of two Illinois State Task Forces on Learning Disabilities and was recently appointed by Governor Thompson to serve on the Illinois State Advisory Council for the Education of Han­ dicapped Children. All interested parents, educators and learning disability specialists are en­ couraged to attend the presentation. Tickets will be $2 at the door.
