Register now for retreat Registrations are currently being received at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 404 N. Green St., McHenry, for a one-week retreat at the Beth- phage Mission, Axtell, Nebr. The retreat, to be held June 8 through June 14, is open to all high school and college students of Shepherd of the Hills. Partial scholarships are available to everyone attending, and reservations may be made by contacting the church office at 385-4030 by March 31. A film entitled, "To Touch A Butterfly," was shown recently in the parish to explain the puipose of Bethphage Mission, which serves both the mentally and physically handicapped. Students attending the retreat spend the first half of each day doing volunteer labor on the mission grounds, such as painting, lawn care, etc. The other half of the day is spent assisting therapists by working directly with the patients. Evenings at the mission provide an opportunity for en tertainment for the students attending. Each year, several van loads of students travel to Bethphage to participate in the program. The mission is supported by the Lutheran church. Other recent events planned for the youth at the church in cluded a three-day Luther League retreat at Lutherdale Bible Camp, Elkhorn, Wis., planned around the theme of a Christian's attitudes toward nuclear war. Adults par ticipating included Bruce and Diane Ericson, Ron Kot, Charles Haack and Kim Rehfeldt. An overnight for the seventh and eighth-graders, to allow for discussion of the Old Testament and the Lord's Prayer, was recently held at the church for 44 students. Adults leading the event included Bob and Mary Lou Nichols, Judith Warren, Judy Zid, Glenn Evenson, Ron Kot, John Roper, Jan Mauer and Kim Rehfeldt. Special events for all ages of youth are held regularly at the church. Study book of Revelation Help is on the way for those who are confused by the book of Revelation in the Bible, and curious about the symbolism. Pastor Merle D. Conklin will begin a teaching series on this interesting book with the adult Sunday School class at the Wonder Lake Bible Church, Sunday, March 10. Everyone is welcome to come at 9:30 a.m. and get in on the beginning of the course. There are also Sunday School classes for all ages from three years old and up. Nursery care is provided for birth to two years old. Another baby will soon be added to those in attendance at the nursery, with the birth of Alexander Travis Dickson, Feb. 27. His parents are Dwayne and Becky (Repke) Dickson, and grandparents are Bob and Rhoda Repke. Even though the weather is wintery, the camp coordinators are thinking "summer." Len Loukota has announced the dates for the summer camp sessions and also has brochures available for those who are interested. ' -- The Sepik Iwam people are just one of 700 different language groups in Papua New Guinea. They live 500 miles up the Sepik river, 10 hours by motor canoe from the nearest airstrip. Until a few years ago, these people had almost no conta with the outside world. They ha< never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. Wycliffe Bible translator Marilyn Laszlo has lived with the Sepik Iwam people since 1969. She has studied their language and culture, established an alphabet, and reduced the language to written form. Now begins the process of translating the New Testament into the Sepik Iwam language. On March 10, at 7 p.m., Daniel Hallberg and Calinda Leonard of Wycliff Bible Translators will present the film, "Mountain of Light," at the Alliance Bible Church, 3815 W. Bull Valley Rd., McHenry. v This 42-minute, full color documentary tells the story of the Sepik Iwam people and their response t6 the New Testament as Marilyn Laszlo translates it into their own language.
