"Jesus," a major motion picture that has been translated into, more than 80 different languages, will be presented Friday, March 22, at 7:30p.m. at Crystal Lake South High School. This local showing represents the first time that this highly acclaimed film will be shown in the Fox Valley area. Fox Valley Evangelical Free Church of Algonquin-Lake-in- the Hills is sponsoring this noncommercial showing of "Jesus," which was initially distributed by Warner Brothers to theaters throughout the United States. Translation and distribution is now being han dled by Campus Crusade for Christ International, an in terdenominational mission organization. Because of the film's faithful representation of the life of Christ as recorded in the gospel of Luke, Pastor Paul Cox of the sponsoring church is excited about the showing. "We're thrilled to be able to offer such an accurate and relevant portrayal of Christ's life to the community at no chargev" Cox said. "In fact, this could very well be the most important movie that anyone will ever see. Jack Valenti, president of the motion picture association that presents the Oscars, has said that this is the most extensive translation of a feature film in the history of the motion picture industry. As of March 1984, 81 language translations were completed "The Enemy" to be shown at Maranatha Assembly of God Films like "The Exorcist" have met with much negative uproar across North America. To the contrary, however, a film on the same theme, titled "The Enemy," is receiving en thusiastic commendation and accolades from clergymen in many denominations. The 70-minute color feature film will be shown at Maranatha Assembly of God, 1309 Court St., McHenry, Sunday, March 17, at 6 p.m. The purpose of "The Enejny" is to reenact the actual ex perience of a young couple who served as youth sponsors in their local church. Through their youth group activities, they encounter two teenage boys whose strange behavior leads tflem to believe the boys are possessed by a demon. How they deal with the problem should be of interest to all Christians. This film is not recommended for children under junior high school age. Although great care was exercised to keep "The Enemy" from being a sen sational film, it does depict two exorcisms which may be dif ficult for children to understand. It could be emotionally harmful to children who are not properly prepared. For further information one may call 344-0557. Investment AVAILABLE THRU MARCH 18,1985 INVESTMENT PLANS MIN. In one village in India, Hindu leaders arranged for street lights to be turned off so the film could be seen and 10,000 people attended. 'Jesus" is a production of the Genesis Project, an organization formed by a group of film makers and Bible scholars working to put the entire Bible, word for word, on film.
