McHenry County residents need not be concerned about rumors that the Social Security office in Woodstock will be closed. William Biscomb, branch manager of the local Social Security office, said that people served by his office can be assured of future service in Woodstock. "There is no great concern. This has been blown out of all proportion and is upsetting to the population we serve," he said after learning that an area newspaper had stated the office is closing. Biscomb said the story probably stemmed from a Washington report that recommended half the Social Security offices nationwide should be closed. "Several Chicago offices will be closed to accommodate one larger, more efficient office, and every office is constantly under review, but there's no concern here," he emphasized. Biscomb said the Woodstock office serves the entire county. "The benefits we pay to county residents total $8.5 million monthly. Our aim is to give the best service to the population we serve and to assure them of continued service," he said. Where's the fire? McHenry Township Fire.
