MARCH 20.1985 Sports Sports log Cage camps announced EUREKA -- Eureka College basketball coach Dave Darnell announces three separate basketball camps which will be helcLin June. The camps will be held at the Reagan Center on the Eureka College campus. Featured at the camp will be National Basketball Association players Roger Phegley, Mickey Johnson, and the Bulls' Dave Corzine." Also, Cathy Boswell, a member of the women's U.S. Olympic Team, and many prominent Illinois high school coaches wul also be featured, including New Trier girls' mentor John Schnieter. The girls' camp, for those entering fifth through 12th grades, will be from June 23-28. There will be two sessions for the boys, for those entering fifth through 12th grades. The first will be from June 9-14, the second from June 16-21. There will also be a session for Class A high school teams, from June 16-21. Tuition ranges from $145 for resident campers, to $95 for non­ residents living at home. For the team, the camp tuition is $145 per team member. Camp membership for the team session is limited. Tennis umpires to meet CHICAGO - Hie Chicago Tennis Umpires Council will hold a training clinic Sunday, March 24, at 3:30 p.m. at the Mid-Town Tennis Club, 2020 West Fullerton, Chicago. The clinic is scheduled to follow the finals of the local CDTA Youth baseball clinic set 12" registration begins OAK BROOK - A special baseball instructional clinic designed specifically for the Youth League coach will take place Friday, April 12, at the Hyatt House in Oak Brook Center beginning at 6 p.m. This unique presentation has been created especially for the Chicagoland Area Youth League Baseball Coaches, and all coaches, regardless of experience, are encouraged to par­ ticipate. Some of baseball's finest athletes and instructors will be on hand to discuss and demonstrate the fundamentals of the game. Among these are Steve Rogers, pitcher for the Montreal Expos, and Cubs' reliever George Frazier. The clinic is presented by Mickey Owen Baseball School, "America's Authority on Youth Baseball," with over 26 years of baseoall instructional experience. The school's director, Ken Rizzo, and head of instruction, Dick Birmingham, will also be part of the clinic. Youth League coaches will benefit greatly from this per­ sonalized program, which allows the exchanging of questions and ideas. The atmosphere allows for the gleaning of methods you'll be able to implement in practice sessions and games. The clinic fees are $32 if paid by March 22, $42 if paid by April 1, and $47 at the door. The wrestling sessions will be held at the McHenry East Campus High School from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Coaches Jerry Rankin and Dm March will teach the basic fundamentals of wrestling with the emphasis on fun and safety. This five-week wrestling program will be scheduled as follows : Session 1: Kindergarten through second grade, Wednesdays, starting April 10, the fee is $7. Session 2: Third through fifth grades, Tuesdays and Thur­ sdays, beginning April 9, $14 fee. The City of McHenry Department of Parks and Recreation will be taking registration up until the start of the class. Sign up early. The teams that meet the minimum of 60 percent of their players residing withing the McHenry School District boundaries can sign up beginning on Monday, March 25. Registration will open at 8 a.m. at the McHenry Park Depart­ ment Office, located in City Hall. All registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. All fees and a completed roster must be turned in at the time of registration. The league fee will be $250 for the 1985 season. A tax equilization fee (non-resident) of $75 per team will be added to any league fees. This fee will be assessed to all teams that do not meet the minimum of 80 percent City of McHenry residents on their roster. Soccer films Wednesday The McHenry Area Soccer Federation is showing two educational films on soccer, Wednesday, March 20, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hilltop School, 2615 W. Lincoln Rd. All interested parents, players and coaches are invited to at­ tend the showing. The films are offered free of charge as a continuing effort to educate all interested parties on the basics of soccer. These films should be especially beneficial to all new parents, players and coaches not too familiar with the game of soccer. 16" league to meet The McHenry County 16-inch Softball League will hold an organizational meeting in preparation for the 1985 season Wednesday. The tournament, which was held at Springfield, was an all- day event involving more than 600 bowlers from throughout Illinois. Woodstock residents Jim Kniebusch and Dave Hahn won the Young Adult Men's Doubles title with a team total of 1,200 pins. Kniebusch bowled 160-180- 212 - 552, while Hahn rolled 216- 199-233 - 648. The Open Class Men's team compiled 2,768 pins in a tourney that was dominated by low scores at the Strike It Rich Lanes. The team placed second. It won the District competition with 3,071 pins. At Springfield, Jim Hallisy, Hebron, led the team with a 577 series. Other scores: Bert Rank, Woodstock, 543; Bill Adams, Woodstock, 552; Hal Simons, Marengo, 599 and Roger Sch- webke, Crystal Lake, 537.
