Area 4-H members invited to conference McHenry County 4-H mem bers, 14 years and older, are encouraged to "Plug in Their Potential" during the 1985 State 4-H Conference to be held June 18 to 21 at the Urbana- Champaign campus of the University of Illinois, says Kathy Halstead, McHenry County Extension Youth Ad visor. Conference participants will have the opportunity to meet new friends, take part in workshops keyed to their special interests, attend the theatre and dances and get a taste of college life. The conference is expected to involve some 600 4-H'ers from around the state, and par ticipants may select from 86 workshops taught by U of I faculty and other resource persons. In addition to workshop sessions, some delegates win participate in the Conference Swing Choir, develop an audio visual presentation for the closing assembly and prepare the conference newspaper. Scott McKain will give the keynote address and the closing ceremony will feature Geni Rourke, former Illinois 4-H member and WICD-television personality. She will tell 4-H'ers how she was able to develop her own potential and challenge them to do the same. Other program features will include an outdoor pork chop barbeque, a professional theatre presentation of "Music Man," a dinner recognizing donors to the Illinois 4-H program and a dance. Donors asked to respond to critical blood shortage The Aurora Area Blood Bank is facing what a spokesman called a "critical shortage in its blood supply" this week. The supply is 50 percent of normal, according to a spokesman from Aurora Center. The center is the sole supplier for 22 hospitals in an eight county area. The hospitals require 225 pints.of blood a day. A donor generally gives one pint. * The shortage is a seasonal phenomenon, he said. Donors should be between 17 and 66 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. They should abide by their regular schedule and should not skip meals prior to giving blood. The Aurora Spokesman said giving blood takes 20 to 30 minutes. Communi ty Concer t s Association, serving McHenry County and surrounding areas, will conclude its membership drive for the 1985-86 season on Saturday. There will be no fall membership drive, so there is only a short time left to take advantage of the entertainment package. Next season's concerts series will include Nina Svetlanova, pianist, Sept. 28; Robin and Linda Williams, country-folk singers, Oct. 27; Jury's Irish Cabaret of Dublin bringing a variety of Irish songs and dances, March 16; and New York Light Opera bringing melodies from favorite operettas in early April. Membership in Community Concerts includes admission to all four concerts.
