Page 6 • PLAINDEALER.HERALD, FRIDAY . MARCH 29.1985 Life today Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Phelan of Spring Grove announce the eneg&gement of their daughter Lynne Marie, to Joseph E. Victor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Joseph Victor of Chemung, 111. The bride elect graduated from Dow High School, Midland, Midi., and attends the Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses, Moline, 111. Her fiance graduated from Waverly High School; the State Agricultural and Technical College of New York, Cobleskill; and Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green. They plan to marry Sept. 7. 53% Fundamentalist looks to Bible for last word DEAR ABBY: My 17-year-old son and several of his buddies went on a skiing trip, after which I found two bath towels with the name of a motel on them. I told him I couldn't believe that he would steal. He said he didn't consider that stealing-the owners of the motel were thieves because of the prices they charged. I told him that nobody forced him to he was guilty of stealing stay there, and in my eyes Please print youropinion, Abby. He reads you faithfully. OLD-FASHIONED MOM DEAR MOM: Your son's rationalization for stealing bath towels from a motel doesn't wash. Don't throw in the towels. Insist that your son send them back with an apology. (That's what my twin and I had to do when our father found some hotel "souvenirs," acquired after a football excursion to Sioux Falls, S.D., circa 1935.) DEAR ABBY: I've been married for 14 years. This is the second marriage for both of us. My husband lies awake nights yearning for another woman. He actually tells me this! Although he told me that he went to bed with her only once, he won't tell me who she is. He says I know her. My hunch is that it's a woman at our club who boasts that she and her husband have an open marriage. I did not agree to an open marriage when I married this man. When I found out my first husband was the town stud, I divorced him. My present husband insists that he wants to keep our marriage intact. He can't have it both ways. What do you think? NOT WILLING TO SHARE DEAR NOT WILLING: Your husband really knows how to hurt a woman. Why are you holding still for his abuse? You say he can't have it both ways. I say, apparently he can. And has. DEAR ABBY: Myhusband and I have retired to a wonderful community in a warm climate. We love people and have always been able to get along with our neighbors, but there is one couple who are making our lives miserable. He is very crude, swears, hogs the conversation and is an insufferable braggart! His wife is a non-stop talker and a terrible gossip. We have lied to them in order to get out of going to their house, but we cannot keep them from coming to ours. When we have company, they see the cars in our driveway and come over to join us and our guests. When they are around, no one can get a word in-he takes over the conversation in a loud voice, bragging about what he has, what he does and what he spends. Everything he has is better than anyone else'fc, and he gets into noisy arguments with our guests. We have never met anyone like this couple. What can we do? We hate to insult them, but how else can we get these people out of our lives? They know who they are, but don't mention our name or town. OUT OF PATIENCE DEAR OUT: The next time they appear at the door while you're entertaining, say "I'm sorry I can't invite you in now; we nave company." And if they never speak to you again, what have you lost? Two overbearing, intrusive, obnoxious, insensitive neighbors.
