Ltd., will be ted with the 1985 Illinois Business Person of the r Year award by the U.S. Small I Business Administration (SBA) Friday, April 12. The presen- ' tation -ceremony and reception : will be held at 3:.30 p.m. at the Company's Crystal Lake : facility. The Shapiros were nominated by the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce for the annual - award. It will be presented by SBA Illinois District Director John L. Smith, and honored uests include Congressman ' ilip Crane, State Representative Jill Zwick and Crystal Lake Mayor Carl Weh- de.r Hpward Electronics is a five- year-old company specializing in .repair of CATV (cable) converter boxes, lines, headend equipment and telecom­ munications equipment. It has grown from an operation in the Shapiro's basement to a sophisticated, high technology business, with a leading position in the cable electronics repair industry. The company employs nearly 70 people. Howard Electronics was founded by Howard i 1979, when he took an evening ]ob repairing cable converters in his basement. Jeanette Shapiro, with her Masters of Social Work degree, was building a marriage and family counseling practice. In 1981, the Shapiros moved their businesses from their home into a facility that housed both Howard Electronics and Jeanette's practice. Jeanette soon joined Howard Electronics as president, with respon­ sibilities that include ad­ ministration of personnel, financial management and other activities. Howard became vice president in charge of company and manufacturing operations and sales. They opened their 16,000- square-foot facility in Crystal Lake in 1984. In recognition of their honor, the Shapiros will travel to Washington on May 4 for a reception at the White House. They are also in nomination for the U.S. Small Business Person of the Year award, which will be announced at that time. A laser is a device that generates an intense beam of light which can vaporize tissue almost in­ stantaneously. It is so precise that the surrounding tissue is hardly affected. The beam also sterilizes and seals blood vessels as it cuts so there is less podiatry, a considerable variety of foot ailments can successfully be treated with a laser." Gorski, local orthopaedic surgeon, has an­ nounced the installation of new x-ray technology which will permit a sharp reduction in patient radiation exposure without sacrificing image quality of the x-ray. Dr. Gorski's office has switched to an imaging system combining Du Pont's Rare Earth Quanta ED intensifying screen and Cronex x-ray film. According to Dr. Gorski, the new system will reduce radiation dosage to itients in most examinations )y 50 percent.
