The Brown team in the under-eight division scored a whopping 12 goals, led by Marc McGowen, who netted fjyg Jeremy Gudauskas scored a hat trick with three goals, while Phil Mortensen had two and Jason Stiles and Sam Cole one apiece for the Browns. While McGowen took scor ing honors for the day, he had two competitors right behind him. Kirk Cashmore of the Light Green team in the under-eight division tallied all four of his team's goals, while in the under-six division, Jonathan Smith of the Red team scored four as well. Royal Blue's Paul Thomas, in the under-eight group, had a three-goal hat trick. McHENRY Lee Lindquist led things off with a bloop single over Jacobs' pulled-in third baseperson. Carlson followed with a single up the middle, after which Monique Betancourt boomed a triple to left center to score both Lindquist and Carlson, pulling the locals to within 3-2. McHenry's leading hitter, sophomore Rachel Prushinski, then followed Betancourt's lead with a triple of her own, tying the game at 3-3. Gretchen Fuiava then collected the game-winning RBI by knocKijig in Prushinski with a single up the middle.' In the Jacobs' seventh, McHenry- turned a double play and looked ready to put the Eagles away. But an error, a walk and a single loaded the bases, before Carlson whiffed the Golden Eagles' final hope, ending the contest. McHenry had nine hits to Jacobs' four. "YJe have to hit," Wirtz said. "We've got eight of our nine players hitting over .300." Wirtz and crew will try to even their conference record when they travel to Crystal Lake Central for a doubleheader Saturday morning, beginning at 9:15. The races will begin- at McHenry West Campus, at 8 a.m. Profits from the run will support a variety of community projects, such as the Child Car Seat Program, which makes car seats available to families with young children. The race is open to the public. There are no sponsors to sign-up. All runners will receive a commemorative t-shirt and awards will be presented. The run starts and finishes in McHenry, with over half the course running through the countryside. Pre-registration is $6, day of the race, $7. The fees are: Family: $45 for city residents; $90 for non-residents. Individual adult: $25 city residents; $50 non-residents. Individual child: $20 city residents; $40 non-residents. Pool passes may be purchased at McHenry City Hall, 1111 N. Green St. The hours are weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Satur days, 9 a.m. to noon. City residency status is anyone residing within the corporate limits of the City of McHenry. This year the pool will open on Memorial Day weekend, Satur day, May 25. Youth, women's softball The Youth 12" and Women's 12" softball registration will begin Monday, April 29 for teams comprised of 80 percent of its players residing in the City of McHenry. Registration will open at 8 a.m. at the McHenry Park Depart ment office, located in City Hall, 1111N. Green St. All registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. All fees and a completed roster must be turned in at the time of registra tion. The league fee is $250 for both leagues. A tax equalization fee (non-resident) of $75 per team will be add ed to any league fee. This fee will be assessed to all teams which do not meet the minimum of 80 percent McHenry residents on their rosters. Fishing derby in May ANTIOCH -- A professional-amateur fishing tournament will be held at the Fox Chain-O-Lakes in Antioch on Saturday, May 4, sponsored by the White Hen Pantry's Tournament Trail and con ducted by the Central Illinois Tournament Association. A guaranteed first prize of $1,000 will be awarded in the pro divi sion. First prize in the amateur division will be an electronic dep- thfinder. A special bonus will be given for the biggest bass caught during the event. Professional and amateur anglers alike will have the opportuni ty to compete with the midwest's best and learn the secrets of suc cessful bass fishing. Gun dog seminar set A Gun Dog Seminar will be held at Gypsy Glen Farms Hunt Club on Darrell Road in McHenry. The five Sunday sessions will take place June 2 to June 30. Biathlon planned CRYSTAL LAKE -- The Lakers Running Club will hold its Midwestern Biathlon Championship Sunday, May 19, at 10 a.fn., at Crystal Lake South. The 10 kilometer (6.2 mile) road run will be followed by a 30 kilometer (18.6 mile) bike race. The competition is open to both males and females. There will be eight age groups per category, and t-shirts will be given to all entrants. Only the first 500 entries will be accepted. The fee is $10 prior to May 12, $15 thereafter.
