V Sports iWarriors nip Chargers, 3-2 | Buoyed by an outstanding pit- Thing performance . from senior (Jeff Schuster, McHenry's [baseball team claimed a hard- -fought, 3-2, 11-inning Fox Valley IConference victory over Dundee- ;Crown Tuesday. FVC Baseball SECTION 2 - PAGE 17 - PLAINDEALER-HERALD, FRIDAY . MA V 3.1985 • Schuster pitched nine allowed two runs on tw ings, ___ „ hits, Jtefore tiring and giving Way to Craig Hill, who hurled the last two innings and earned the win. J "Seven's a lot of innings, and we got him to go nine, which is great," said McHenry coach jBrian Wilson. . The Warriors are now 4-6 in the jFVC, 8-7 overall. McHenry second baseman Steve Cunningham doesn't have a chance in the world of reaching this errant throw in the first of two Warrior losses to Crystal Lake Central last week. The Warriors rebounded, however, to tip Dundee- Crown, 3-2, in nine innings on Tuesday. Ladies' Golf ; Well, it's that time of year Again - the tree buds are out, the flowers are out -- and so are the women golfers at McHenry Country Club. Tuesday brought a con tinuation of the unusually beautiful spring weather our area has been experiencing. Alas, however, the beauty did not rub off orf most of the golfers, who opened their season with a two-man team best ball event. * As Betty Ptelan cited, she did not have enoWh band-aids to stop the bleeaing (from the heart and the egoK even though she and Judy Smithson tied for low putts of 27 each. Results of the event will have to reported next week due to some of the scores being beyond control in a lot of cases. Even though the putting was oHfee gals, and Dot Freund found just about every trap on the course, all was notapictureof doom and gloom. A couple of birdies and a few -ins were recorded. Zwissler, recently- returned from sunny California where she's been practicing all Winter, executed a fine chip-in on 17 to hold par. Floss O'Connell threw in a humdinger from 65 yards out to birdie 13. Betty Mohan dittoed that action on No. 5. Cute little Jill Olszewski was ecstatic to get her first chip-in on 11, as was Linda Myers on No. 7. And Joan Blair was grinning from ear-to-ear as she reported having one of her best rounds ever. In addition to the joys and frustrations that take place weekly, the committee in charge is working diligently to put in place the 11th Annual McHenry Women's Invitational (the Pink and Green), which will take place Aug. 8-9. This is the im portant date to be circled on the calendar. Next week's event will be an individual point tournament with a shot-gun start, so, the good Lord wwin' and the creek don't rise, all the gals will be back swinging, hacking and striving for ... Happy Golfing! * Liz. results showed Stef fan's Jewelers and Little Chef tied for first place with 7% points. McHenry Favorite Sports and Fox Hole Tap tied in second place with 6, and Acu Pac and Mar Ray Costumes knotted for third withf ^ apiece. In fourth place, MfcHenry Floral and Classic Trophy tied»with 2% each. „ Corky Weber won the contest for individual low putts in Class A with 14. Darlene Huemann won in Class B with 14, and Nancy Hughes had the lowest in Class C with 16. April 30 was sunny and warm with an extra bonus of calm breezes, most welcome afterv last Tuesday's near-sand storms. Judy Dominik came in with a birdie on No. 9, one of the course's 1 longest holes. There were four nice chip-ins: Judy Mazrin on 1, Sonia Miller on 7, Edie Nimsgren on 10 and Lou Stine on 17. Shirley Klapperich won the dubious title >of number one1 woodsman, hitting three trees on No. J5. As for myself, I must ask that pro that used the acupuncture needles in his ears if it really works. Something is needed. Esta.
