So, won dering if they were going to be rained out, all the ladies showed up wearyig much too much clothing. They had to start stripping as much as possible as the temperature rose to 80 degrees by noon. One of the ladies said, "I ant wearing shorts next Tuesday, even.if the weather man says frost." Linda Fornaciari got her expected bird on 15. Wanda Gerke and her opponent, Doris Stewert, both had nice chip-ins on 11. Dorie Freund, captain of her team shot a nice 41 on the back 9. Our president, Sandy Donovan, who is a member of the Illinois Ladies Traveling League, reports that'after the first game of the eight teams participating; Chapel Hill Ladies are in fourth place. The leading team being Pine Crest. We wish them luck in the matches ahead. That's all folks, except if Marge Olszewski gets any more of those long putts that go in the cup bounce straight up and go back in again, we are going to start checking her ball for magnets. Esta MCHENRY COUNTRY CLUB Less wind and no rain made Tuesday a pleasant day for the ; ladies of McHenry Country Club as they played an ABCD 3-Best- Ball calcutta. A shotgun start found the Divot Dolls covering most of the course during the morning hours. Flying up to the SPORTS FANS.., I BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW Brought to you by Phil Oeflling One of the greatest hitting feats in baseball history was by Reggie Jackson in the last game of the 1977 World Series . Not only did Jackson hit 3 home runs in that game, but he hit them on 3 successive pitches-in other words. Jackson swung at the first pitch thrown to him in 3 straight times up and. amazingly, hit a home run each time! /Here's a baseball oddity. ..Although the National League has won the most All Star games in history oner the Amen can League (35 to 19) the American League has won the most World Series over the National League. (47rto 34) Who's the only man in history ever to play big league baseball after winning the Heisman Trpohy as the best player in college football? .The only Heisman winner ever to play maior league base ball was Vic Janowicz who won the Heis man at Ohio' State in 1950 and then played big league baseball with Pitts burgh in 1953 and 1954 I bet you didn't know McHenry State Bank is your boat and recreational vehi cle loan headquarters And with summer just around the comer now's the best time 'o see Keith Leathers or Linda Wig man o: ^vself for your boat or recrea tional vehi'-i* Come in today or cail w85 104o <jf>d well help your Summertime Vacation dreams come true birdie tree were Speedy Neuman on 18, Espar Oja on 14, Alvina Yopp on 16, Betty Mohan on 18 and Liz Nolan on 8 and 4. Betty Mohan's doggone nearly made hers a hole-in-one as her drive hit the flag stick and dropped just inches from the cup. Speaking of measurements, (Catherine Bolger's drive on 10 landed just 32 feet from the creek. An official measurement took place „for verification following her ball's meandering down the cart path and around a tree before coming to a stop. The old philosopher always says no matter how you hit the ball if it turns out well that's pure skill. And Bernice Dolce's spirits rose after dropping a couple of 30-foot putts on 1 and 11. The dubious honor of Sandy-of-the-week title goes to one of our lovely newcomers, Beverly Hamlitz, who now knows where all the sand traps lie. Her playing partner dubbed her Lawerence of Arabia but that probably won't stick. Team play has begun and the McHenry gals are off to a good start with a win over Brae Loch last Friday. This Friday McHenry will be hosting Pine Crest and all their club mates are wishing them good luck and another win. It should make for » Happy Golfing! CORRECTION In a story last Friday on the Lake Region Sports Car Club, it was stated that women weren't allowed in the club until 1978. That is incorrect. Women were always allowed in the club since its inception in 1958, but the club's by-laws have not been changed since 1978. Marian A girls finished HARVARD -- Even the opening round of the IHSA Class A softbali regional wasn't kind to the Marian Central softbali team. Harvard's Hornets made short work of'the Hurricanes by an 11-1 thumping in the regional opener. But Marian's season isn't quite over.. . • < The Hurricanes, still looking for their first win of the season, travel to Lake Zurich this afternoon and then host Grayslake in the season-finale onFridav Marian started off on the right foot as it tallied a run in the top of the first, but the Hurricane bats went silent after that while Harvard was busy advancing in the tourney.
