i Prepare for safe summer driving now Slimmer is here again, and it's time to set out on the annual family outing. The gloried of the Great Outdoors beckon, and they're only a car ride of several hours, or perhaps a day or two, away. Before you load your luggage into the trunk and pile maps and family into front and back seats, you would be well advis ed to check your car over to make sure it's trouble-free. If it's due for a tune-up, this is the perfect time! Check oil and water levels. Make sure you have a spare can of oil and plastic container of water in your trunk for emergencies. Check tire pressure. (This is something you should do periodically during your road trip.) Give your windshield the washing it deserves and needs; with so much addi tional stimuli (from an unfamiliar road, to children laughing and talking con stantly, to all sorts of roadside sights), you don't need to cope with poor visibility as well. Do make sure you have a tool chest with you to make emergency repairs, if necessary. The only thing worse than breaking down on a vacation, is breaking Credit Card Precautions When traveling, here are some precautions to take regarding your credit cards: • Keep your credit cards and identification cards together in a separate case with a zipper. Cards can slip out of your wallet very easily. • Never set your card down on a counter, hotel dresser, etc., never leave it in your glove compart ment or coat pocket. • Make sure you get your card back every time you use it. • Check your cards periodically to make sure they're all there. • Keep a list of your cards with you, with their account numbers and in structions for reporting loss. Always report the theft of a cfedit card immediately. • Save the receipts from all your vacation pur chases and compare the receipts with your monthly statement. Take special care in examining your gasoline credit charges. Double billing occasional ly occurs; some gas com panies have a central clear ing house for exchange of charges, so you may get. one bill from the clearing house and another from the gas company. Trade in and up to a Honda. Is the old mower going "pilfer. shudder, bang?" Or doesn't it run at all? Want to get rid of it? Bring it down to us. We'll look at your old mower while you look at our new Honda mower Then we'll talk trade-ins. We'll get you a new Honda lawn mower, a price allowance for your trade-in, and get rid of the old mower for you. Call us for details. Power Equipment It's a Honda down far from the nearest gas station, and being stranded without the tools necessary to effect a repair. Also make sure that you have a flashlight with you, and that both bat teries and bulb are in working order. Once you've set out on your travels, be a defensive driver. Keep alert to what the drivers around you are doing. Know your exit ahead of time (read maps during rest stops or lunch, or before setting out in the morning, not while driving; or, alternately, appoint so meone in your party as official navigator). If, by some chance, you miss your exit off the highway, do not back up. Continue to the next exit and get off there. The few minutes time you lose are a small price to pay for your family's safety. ^ If you're feeling drowsy, do not con tinue driving. Either pull over and rest for a while, or allow another licensed driver to take the wheel for a spell. You'll make better time, more safely, by not forcing yourself to continue driv ing under the stress of sleepiness. Always observe the posted speed limit, whether it's 15 or 55. The authorities have good reasonior setting the limits they do, and road safety is their prime concern, as it should be yours. Vacations are a time of fun, freedom and happiness; careful, safety-conscious driving is a key element in their success. IT OFF 1 SUCCESSFUL WEIGHT LOSS!
